Wentlandt, 84, died Oct. 3, 2002 Quentin Wayne Wentlandt, 84, of North Hudson died unexpectedly, Thursday, Oct. 3, at Hudson Hospital after an apparent heart attack. He was born in Spring Valley, Pierce County, May 8, 1918, the son of Emil and Elva (Coon) Wentlandt, and attended school in Elmwood. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 and had duty in the South Pacific, where he served with an amphibious tractor battalion on Luzon, Philippine Islands, and in New Guinea. After the war he returned to Hudson and resumed his position as a mechanic/salesman for Cuddebach Hardware Store in Hudson. Later he took a position as a master craftsman at the Port of Sunnyside Marine in Stillwater for 25 years and later at Trollen's Marine at Hudson and the Afton Marine. On April 2, 1942, in Riverside, Calif., he was married to Lorraine A. Swanson of Hudson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Swanson. He was a talented artisan and designer in both wood and metal. If a necessary marine item was not available commercially, he was able through his ingenuity to manufacture it himself. In his spare time he built a 28-foot, wood-hull cabin cruiser and a 32-foot, steel-hull cabin cruiser in his back yard, and launched them in the nearby St. Croix River. He also enjoyed hunting small boar and target shooting. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine; two daughters, Donna Mae (Gary) Shaffer of Lakewood, Colo., and Susan Ann (Melvin) Solsvig of Hudson; a special nephew, David (Hilda) Swanson of Hudson; three grandchildren, Tania, Monte and Cary; a great-granddaughter Ashley; two sisters, Ramona (Orv) Johnson of Hudson and Alicia (Ralph) Hoerth of Seattle, Wash.; and three brothers, Herbert of Milwaukee, Marshall and Sanford, both of Seattle. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Joanne Sorenson officiating. Music was provided by Cheryl Forester. Burial was in Willow River Cemetery, where casketbearers were Patrick Zeuli, Peter Zeuli, Brad Zeuli, Melvin Solsvig, Gary Shaffer and David Swanson. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at O'Connell's and one hour prior to the service Tuesday. Memorials are preferred. © 2003 Hudson Star-Observer - Reposted by permission http://www.hudsonstarobserver.com/main.asp?Search=1&ArticleID=6568&SectionID=33&SubSectionID=103&S=1
