Surnames: Bunce, Covell, Claire, Slomke, Burchill Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3FC.2ACI/2219 Message Board Post: Gwendolyn (Covell) Bunce, 92 Gwendolyn Margaret Bunce, 92, a former resident of Hudson, died Monday, Oct. 28, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. She was born Oct. 28, 1910, in Knapp, the seventh of the eight children of the late William and Mary (Claire) Covell. In 1912 the family moved to North Hudson, where William Covell worked for the Omaha Railroad, purchased three acres adjacent to the car shops and built the family home. Gwen attended the North Hudson Elementary School, graduated from Hudson High School in 1928 and studied briefly at River Falls State Teachers College (now University of Wisconsin-River Falls). On June 26, 1932, she was married to Fredrick Bunce. They raised their three children at the family home in North Hudson, which she maintained until her retirement in 1977. In 1952 she began a professional career as a proofreader and editorial reviser at West Publishing Company, law book publishers in St. Paul. After her retirement she moved to Victoria, B.C. Her survivors are a son, Dr. Fredrick William Bunce, emeriti faculty from Indiana State University, who lives and conducts research in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; two daughters, Rona Marion (John) Slomke, a retired registered nurse of Victoria, B.C., and Madelyn Claire (Lyle) Burchill, a professor of German at Concordia College (Moorhead, Minn.), who lives in Fargo, N.D. There are eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Fred, in 1961. A memorial service is set for 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the First Baptist Church in Hudson.
