She was born in Odell, Neb., Nov. 26, 1901, the daughter of the Rev. John and Anne (Soule) Bryant, and moved in 1904 with her family to Appleton, Colo. After graduating from Appleton High School in 1919 she attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colo., for two years and then taught art in Nogales, Ariz., for two years. She then attended Chicago Art Institute, where the received a bachelor's degree in art education. During that time she worked at Marshall Field's department store and ushered at Chicago Symphony Orchestra concerts. In 1927 she taught at Albion (Idaho) State Normal School, but returned to Illinois to teach art at Illinois State Normal University. It was there she met and married Walker DeMarquis Wyman in 1930. In 1932 they moved to River Falls, where Dr. Wyman joined the faculty at River Falls State Teachers College (now UW-River Falls). Helen Wyman later taught art in the River Falls public schools. The Wymans moved to Whitewater when Dr. Wyman became president of Wisconsin State University-Whitewater. In 1967, however, they returned to River Falls. After Dr. Wyman's retirement in 1978, they wintered in Green Valley, Ariz. She was a talented and popular artist and many of her works were commissioned both locally and nationally. She also illustrated a number of her husband's books. She was the last surviving founding member of the River Falls branch of the American Association of University Women, a group she helped organize in 1935. She was greatly interested in the environment, the Kinnickinnic River Land Trust, the Nature Conservancy and the Sierra Club. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Dr. Walker Wyman, in 1999; and three siblings. Surviving are two sons, John (Sandra) Wyman of Madison and Mark (Eva) Wyman of Normal, Ill.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service is planned at a later date at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in River Falls.
