Kunz, 99, of Downsville died Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie. He was born Dec. 12, 1902, in Winslow, Ill., the son of Gottlieb and Anna Marie (Stalder) Kunz. As a young child he moved with his family to the Downsville area, where he lived until entering the Dunn County Health Care Center in 1998. During World War II he worked in a defense plant in Milwaukee and returned to Downsville and was employed at Safeway Creamery until he retired in 1967. On Nov. 17, 1927, in Stillwater, he was married to Mary Bentina Jensen, who died in 1959. He started Boy Scout Troop 78 in Downsville in 1946 and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie. He also enjoyed his trips to Europe with his son and daughter-in-law, to Trub, Switzerland, to see the family homestead and with his son to Denmark to visit his wife's family. Surviving are a daughter, Beverly (Kenneth) Dahms of Downsville; a son, Karl M. (Virginia) Kunz of Hudson; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, five brothers, three sisters and a grandson, Duane Karl Kunz, in 1988. Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 26, at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with the Rev. David Whelan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
