Frohlicher, 92 Ruth M. Frohlicher, 92, of Hammond, and formerly of Hudson, died Saturday, Oct. 26, at the American Heritage Care Center, where she had resided for the past six years. She was born Sept. 3, 1910, in North Mankato, Minn., the daughter of Carl W. and Josephine (Baarson) Gens. She and her family moved to Great Falls, Mont., in 1916 and she attended local schools, graduating from Great Falls High School in 1928 . Later she attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., the UCLA Riverside School of Librarianship and the University of Minnesota Library School On Dec. 30, 1935, she was married to Stephen Victor Frohlicher in Great Falls, Mont. In 1942 the couple moved to St. Paul and then to Hudson in 1944. She was head librarian of Univac, Division of Speery Rand Corp. in St. Paul, for seven years. While in Hudson she participated in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Red Cross and was a volunteer at the Hudson Public Library. She and her husband were active in the promotion and building in 1952 of Hudson Memorial Hospital. They moved back to Great Falls in 1965, and she again joined the staff of the Great Falls Public Library, where she was reference librarian until 1973, when she retired. The Frohlichers returned to Hudson in 1987 to be close to their son, Stephen, and became residents of WinterGreen Apartments, where they made many new friends. She was a dedicated, lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star, where she served as worthy matron. She was a president of her Chapter BJ of the PEO Sisterhood and in 1996 received her 50-year membership pin. She also was a member of the St. Paul Women's City Club, St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Hudson and former member of the Governor's Commission of Children and Youth. Her ongoing hobby was compiling genealogical records of her family, and reading was her primary interest. Surviving are her son, Stephen G. (Diane) Frohlicher of Hudson; and two grandchildren, Keith V. Frohlicher of Milwaukee and Mariette (Mark) Atkinson of Ann Arbor, Mich. Preceding her in death was her husband, Stephen V. Frohlicher, in 1993; a brother, Gordon Gens, in 1965; and a sister, Dorothy (John) Glass, in 2002. An Eastern Star service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 (today), at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
