Waxon, 91 Elwyn Lura Waxon, 91, of Davidson, N.C., formerly of Hudson, died Friday, Nov. 8, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooreville, N.C. She had been suffering from peripheral artery disease for about a year and had moved to North Carolina in February. She was born in Pierce County Aug. 21, 1911, the daughter of Wallace and Lura (Aldrich) Smith, and was a descendant of Dr. Philip Aldrich, who was Hudson's first postmaster, from 1849-1851. In 1930 she graduated from River Falls Normal School (now University of Wisconsin-River Falls), where she received her teaching certificate and taught at Oak Ridge School (on County Road F) for seven years. On June 15, 1937, at Trinity Lutheran parsonage in Hudson, she was married to Lyle Alfred Waxon. She was a longtime member of the Nifty Neighbors (formerly You Go I Go), a 53-year member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson and a volunteer at Hudson Medical Center. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lyle Waxon, in 1974; three infant children, Eloise, Lois and Burton; and two sisters, Leora Mayer in 1946 and Inez Boney in 1996. Survivors are her daughter, Janice (Don) Goetz of Davidson; two grandchildren, Christopher Goetz of Lexington, Tenn., and Lindsay Goetz of Butte, Mont.; two brothers, Charles (Beverly) Smith of Madison and Marlin (Meiko) Smith of Rockledge, Fla.; three sisters, Vycella Waxon and Olive (Leo) Crimmins, both of Hudson, and Alice Tonella of Marquette, Mich. The funeral service was Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson. Pastor Fred Golke officiated with Nell Black assisting and former Pastor Dan Bruch sharing the obituary and remembrances. Music at the service was provided by vocalist Carol Dahle accompanied by Lori Peper. Visitation was Monday at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Hudson. Burial was in Willow River Cemetery.
