Coleman, 88 Dr. John Bollinger Coleman, 88, of St. Paul/Minneapolis and St. Croix Cove, south of Hudson, died Monday, Nov. 11. He was born June 14, 1914, in Atchison, Kansas, graduated from the University of Kansas and Northwestern University Medical Schools and studied in Germany in 1939. As a captain in the U.S. Army, he served in the South Pacific on the hospital ship Hope. On April 22, 1944, in New York City, he was married to Myra Hurd of Abilene, Kansas. After fellowships in radiology at the University of Minnesota and residency in Cambridge, Mass., he joined St. Paul Radiology in 1950. He was department chief, head of residency training and chief of staff at the former Charles T. Miller Hospital in St. Paul, radiology chief at Children's Hospital in St. Paul and radiologist and chief of staff of Riverview Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis. At the University of Minnesota, he served as clinical associate professor of radiology. He also was chairman of the Ramsey County Medical Society, president of the Radiological Society, first president of Ramsey County Association of Retired Physicians, founder and first chairman of Physicians Metropolitan Health Force, president and trustee of Minnesota Medical Foundation and president of Minnesota Academy of Medicine. After retiring in 1984, he created Mindstretch Colloquia for retired men, modeling it after Myras New Century Club in St. Paul. For 16 years he invited academics and others to lecture on every topic imaginable for the organization. He also helped to found the Bedford Street Regulars, an informal meeting of politically minded friends. He is survived by his children, Janet, Jonathan and Cynthia, all of Minneapolis; two brothers, Jim of Sydney, Australia, and Jean of Newton, Kansas. His wife, Myra, died in 1998. Memorials are preferred to the Kansas University Endowment Association in Lawrence, Kansas.
