She was born Aug. 19, 1914, in Nekoma, N.D., the daughter of Robert and Jessie (Oakland) Chelleberg. She lived her entire life in the state of North Dakota. She graduated from Gilby High School in 1933, Mayville State Teacher's College in 1935 and the University of North Dakota in 1970. For 26 years she taught school, beginning her career in a county school house and retiring as principal in 1977 from Valley Middle School in Crystal, N.D. On March 23, 1939, in Park River, N.D., she was married to Willard A. "Bones" Odne, and they lived in Edinburg, Hopple and St. Thomas, all in North Dakota. Preceding her in death was her husband, who died in 1967. After retirement, she moved to Finley, N.D., where she lived 20 years, and most recently in Valley City. She taught many children to read during her lifetime and enjoyed making afghans and cross-stitched pictures for family and friends. She lived independently until her death. Surviving are three children, Dr. Lynn (Dyan) Odne of Valley City, N.D., John (Kathy) Odne of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Dr. Claudia Odne Johannesson of Hudson; eight grandchildren, John Odne of Stillwater, Minn., Leif Odne of Arden Hills, Minn., Anne Odne of Valley City, Christopher Odne of San Diego, Calif., Tim Odne of Eugene, Ore., Scott Odne of Walnut Creek, Calif., A.J. Peterson of Minneapolis and Drew O. Peterson of Hudson; and a great-granddaughter, Liberty Odne-Niewind of Valley City. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, in the Finley (N.D.)
