Surnames: Jensen, Severson, Persells, Melum, Madsen, Muckenhirn Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3FC.2ACI/2218 Message Board Post: Shirley (Severson) Jensen, 88 Shirley Ruth Myrtle (Severson) Jensen, 88, of River Falls, and formerly of Hudson, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Kinnic Care Center in River Falls. The daughter of Iver and Alice (Persells) Severson, she was born Dec. 22, 1913, in Hudson. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1931 and from University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a bachelor of science and a master of science in education. In 1933, she married John Emmet Jensen. Mrs. Jensen taught school in Beldenville and later moved to Carver School in the North St. Paul School District, retiring in 1979. Her family said she loved visiting Europe and making trips to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Alaska. She was a member of the Chequamegon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Hudson, Business and Professional Women, Art Club, Rock Club and the National Education Association. Mrs. Jensen was a 4-H leader, enjoyed poetry, reading, rock collecting and painting watercolors. Her family said she was very proud that she never missed voting in an election. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmet Jensen, in 1985; two brothers, Donald Severson in 1974 and Lloyd Severson in 1947; and two sisters, Hazel and Margaret Severson. She is survived by her five children, John Jensen, Janis Melum and Jules Jensen, all of River Falls, Joanne (Albert) Madsen of Menomonie and Jim Jensen of Rochester, Minn.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Maxine Muckenhirn of Hudson and Charlotte Jensen of River Falls. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at United Methodist Church in River Falls. A memorial service will follow the next day at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec.7, also at the church.
