    3. Kathleen, Birth, marriage, death, probate, and land records should all be at the St. Croix County courthouse (mostly in the Register of Deeds office). I have their phone number and address on the website at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wistcroi/vitalrec.htm. I would suggest giving them a call to find out exactly what you need to do research in their office. The Register of Deeds in many Wisconsin counties do require a picture ID the first time you research in their office. They'll also be able to tell you about the electronic equipment they allow, as well as copying costs if they don't allow scanners (some don't). Next, I would look at the Area Research Center in River Falls for other records. Their contact information is on the same webpage I listed above. They should have newspapers, sometimes they also copy (to microfilm) much of the vital records from the Register of Deeds, cemetery transcriptions (by the local genealogical society), etc. The St. Croix Valley Genealogical Society does much of their research from this Area Research Center, so they may be able to help you find the answer to some of your specific questions. Anyone else have some recommendations? These (to me) have been the biggest help during my genealogical journeys in Wisconsin! Roxanne St. Croix CC -----Original Message----- From: Kathleen Perelli [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, June 16, 2003 1:48 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [St. Croix] Seeking Onsite Info for St. Croix area I am hopefully planning on coming to the St. Croix, Hudson, River Falls area on a genealogy trip in the very near future - possibly end of June. I am specifically searching for the MILBEE and BOWRON families. As I have never done this before, I'm not sure any of what I may want to do is even possible or how to go about obtaining some items: Searching for birth, marriage, death records probate records, etc. land records church, cemetery and birth records whatever else is available to me What might I have access to of any of the above - viewing actual items, copies of or on film? What restrictions might there be? What do I need to bring (aside from the obvious) - i.e. ID's? Would a laptop generally be allowed? I am a Wisconsin resident and have been to the State Historical Society frequently in the past is this helps for background info. Thank you - I certainly will appreciate any help in this area!
