Ista, 60 Jana Rose Ista, 60, of Baldwin, and formerly of Hudson, died Monday, June 9, at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond. She was born in Stillwater, Sept. 19, 1942, the daughter of Fred and Dorothy (Lefebvre) Kiekhoefer, received her elementary schooling in Hudson and Hammond and graduated from the Baldwin High School. She was married at the Woodside Lutheran Church in Baldwin to Vernon “Bud” Ista. Her love of children led her to open her home as a daycare center for other children, and to continue working in the child care field for the next 25 years. Prior to this, she worked for Doug Thompson Refrigeration and as a waitress for the Bungalow Restaurant in Hammond. She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church and was interested in the local schools. Earlier in life, she enjoyed dancing. Survivors are her husband, Vernon “Bud” Ista; two daughters, Jodie (Scott) Arjes and Karin (fiance Kurt Komro) Ista, both of Baldwin; two grandchildren, Kyle and Kristin Arjes; two brothers, David F. (Cynthia) Kiekhoefer and Donald (Kay) Kiekhoefer, both of Hudson. Preceding her in death were her grandparents, her parents and two nephews, Cory and Todd. The funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Peace Lutheran Church in Baldwin with Pastor John Hanson officiating. Organist Jan Janson accompanied congregational singing. Burial was in Woodside Cemetery, where casketbearers were Troy Ista, Jamie Kiekhoefer, Lee Hanson, Kevin Newton, Sig Papp and Ron Sittlow. Honorary bearers were Kurt Komro, Scott Arjes and all of her daycare children.
