Surnames: Hunter Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3FC.2ACI/2547 Message Board Post: News & Republican-Voice St. Croix county, Wisconsin Feb. 1, 1913 OLD CITIZEN DIES Almon Hunter, a resident of this county, Hersey and Hudson, for over forty years, died early in the month at the National Soldiers' home in Milwaukee, aged 75 years. Information concerning his death only just reached here with no particulars relating to his last sickness. He left here shortly before Christmas, expressing his belief in the Star-Observer office, where he had stopped to secure the change of address of his paper, that he was "about all in" and was probably only going home to die. He was an old settler who participated in the civil war and in the Kansas troubles that followed in the wake of the same. He was a great reader, of an inventive turn of mind and greatly interested in mechanics, some what impractical in his ideas and eccentric, but a man of good impulses and ideals. He was unmarried and left a small estate to administer, cheifly an equity in a small house and a few acres of land on Liberty Hill, which for a year or more back he was anxious to give to the city to be used in the establishment of a training school for boys. --Hudson Star-Observer
