Grupe, 75 Jan. 30, 1928 - Sept. 2, 2003 Kermit W. Grupe, of Alma Center, died Sept. 2 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Kermit was born Jan. 30, 1928 in Dows, Iowa to parents Charles and Phyllis (Appleby) Grupe. He graduated from high school in Roberts and married Lorane Leigh June 8, 1949 in Roberts. He owned and operated the GW Feed Mill in Alma Center from 1965 until 1985 and then worked at Bar-B Flying J Travel Plaza in Black River Falls from 1985 until recently. He also raised beef cattle. He had a very strong work ethic and always set a rigorous schedule for himself. He was a charter member of the Alma Center Lions Club. In his free time he enjoyed traveling in his motor home, camping, boating, and snowmobiling. He also greatly enjoyed his pet dog, Abby. He is survived by his wife, Lorane; two sons, Steve (Kathy) Grupe of South Lake, Texas and Scott (Shelby) Grupe of Alma Center; three daughters, Sue Nordahl and Sharon (Ray) Laufenberg of Alma Center, and Sallie (Michael) Bahnmiller of Warroad, Minn.; brother Charles (Mary) Grupe of Roberts; sister Sandra Barnhart of Columbus, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services for Kermit Grupe were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Alma Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Dunham officiating. Burial took place in East Lawn Cemetery, Alma Center. Friends called at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5 and at the church one hour prior to services. Casketbearers were Michael Bahnmiller, Scott Grupe, Steve Grupe, Greg Nordahl, Brock Laufenberg and Ray L.
