Zientara, 89 Jan. 25, 1914-Aug. 31, 2003 Anton John Zientara, a resident of the Chicago suburb of Cicero, Ill., died Aug. 31 in Berwyn, Ill. He was born Jan. 25, 1914, the son of Anton J. (senior) and Anna (Lassa) Zientara, and grew up on the North Side of Chicago, graduating from Lane Technical High School in 1932. He and the former Therese Wyka were united in marriage in November of 1947. They purchased a home in the Chicago suburb of Cicero and raised a family of three sons. In 1935, Zientara became employed at Western Electric Co. at its Hawthorn Works plant in Cicero, and he spent a 44-year career there, first as a tool and die worker and, after later training, in machine construction in several of the company’s telephone manufacturing plants. During World War II, he and other skilled machinists at the Hawthorn Works plant built and/or maintained radar equipment for the United States Armed Forces. After the war, Zientara was involved in building and maintaining guidance equipment for the Nike missile system. He left Western Electric in 1979 and spent his retirement enjoying his family, traveling, bowling and golfing. His favorite pastimes included following the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and studying American history, especially the Lewis and Clark expedition. While his sons were growing up, he enjoyed family vacations at Lake Tomahawk, Wis., in Oneida County, and, later, at Lake Wapogasset, near Amery. Survivors include his wife, Therese; sons Robert (Beverly) of New Richmond, Gary (Janet) of Elgin, Ill., and James (Dorothy), also of Elgin; his brother, Stanley, and sister, Louise, both of Chicago; three grandchildren, Benjamin (Minneapolis, Minn.), Sharon (St. Paul, Minn.) and Daniel, New Richmond, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Anna, and a sister, Mildred Hansen. Visitation was Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Sourek Funeral Home in Cicero. Mass of Christian Burial is set for today, Sept. 4, at Our Lady of Charity Church. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Chicago. © 2003 New Richmond News - Reposted by permission http://www.newrichmond-news.com/Main.asp?SectionID=3&SubSectionID=54&ArticleID=7188
