Swanson, 70 Beverly Jean (Flattum-Lemon) Swanson, 70, of St, Mary’s Point, Minn., died unexpectedly at her home, Saturday, June 28. She was born May 27, 1933, in St. Paul, grew up in Hudson and was raised by her mother, Florence Flattum and her grandparents, Gust and Martha (Gregerson) Flattum. She attended Hudson schools graduating from Hudson High School in the class of 1952. After finishing high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. On Oct. 29, 1955, she was Married to Edward A. Swanson of Rockford, Ill., at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson by the Rev. Oscar C. Thompson. The couple lived Rockford from 1955 until 1969 when they moved to St. Mary’s Point. She was a housewife while her children were growing up, but later she took employment with KP Hydraulics that later became the Toro Company in Hudson. She loved the fellowship of friends and enjoyed watching movies, shopping, taking pictures, and was an avid Vikings football fan (especially when they played the Packers). She also took great pleasure in her vast collection of doll and teddy bears. Most recently she has been caring for her husband Edward who has Alzheimer’s disease. Survivors are her husband Edward of St. Mary’s Point; a daughter Nadine (Stewart) Swanson-McKenna of Oakdale, Minn.; a son, Steven Scott Swanson of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Richard (Myra) Lemon of Athens, Tenn.; a special cousin, Wanda (Marc) Plourde of Hudson; close friends, Merle Henningson, Frank C. Miller, and Mary (Willie) Thron. Preceding her in death were a son, Scott Edward Swanson (1958); her mother, Florence Lemon Yohn (1980); an aunt, Lucille Marie Miller(1994) and four uncles, Marvin C.(2000),Everett (l989), Herman E. (1944) and Robert Flattum (1956). The funeral service was at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 3, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson with Pastor Joanne Sorenson officiating, At the service organist Layton James accompanied the vocalist Roberta Pominville. Burial was in Willow River Cemetery in Hudson where full military honors were provided by the Hudson Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 21l5. Casketbearers were Mike Plourde, Eric Plourde, Ryan Flattum, Taylor Flattum, Paul Johnson and Joe Carufel. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 2 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson and one hour prior to the service at the church.
