Vincent Hawkins, 77 May 2, 1926 - June 28, 2003 L. Vincent Hawkins was born in Hammond May 2, 1926, the son of Louis and Anna (Gavin) Hawkins. He died June 28 of bone cancer at the Shawnee Gardens Care Center in Shawnee, Kan. Vince graduated from Hammond High School, then joined the Navy. He served in the Navy from 1945-1949 and again from 1951-1953. After his service in the Navy, Vince went to work for IBM. He became a district manager, and retired in 1972. He was a resident of rural Grimes, Iowa for 22 years before moving to Branson, Mo. in 1994. He is survived by five sons, Terry (Kim) of Kansas City, Mo., Mark of Van Meter, Iowa, Dan (Cheryl) of Littleton, Colo., Shawn (Rhonda) of Shawnee Kan., Tim (Diana) of Ankeny, Iowa; three daughters, Sheila (Willie) Trowbridge of Salida, Colo., Pattie (Eddie) Bowers of Frisco, Colo., Lisa (Eric) Sorensen of Oak Park, Ill; 15 grandchildren; his former wife, Katie Hawkins of Urbandale, Iowa; sister, Sharon (David) Bell of Houlton; brothers, Mike (Sally) of River Falls, and Ronnie (Sue) of Lake Elmo, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding Vince in death are his parents; brothers, Celly, Jerry, Bernie, and Pat; and his sister, Ann Lorraine Tolaas. Visitation was held Wednesday, July 2 at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Hudson, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, July 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hammond. Father William Murphy officiated the service. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
