She was born Jan. 17, 1908, in Bath, S.D., the daughter of Mahlon and Laura (Plummer) Long and the oldest of two children, and grew up on a farm in Bath. As a high school student she would often ride her horse to school in Aberdeen, S.D., the school from which she would graduate. On June 13, 1934, she was married to Henry Max Kruse. In 1940 the family moved to Hudson from South Dakota when as a husband-and-wife duo they opened the Gamble Store Agency. She assisted her husband in many phases of the business, which was sold in 1951. She enjoyed sewing quilts and baby things and also knitted many afghans and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and its women’s organizations. Other interests included play cards and spending time at the family cabin on Bone Lake. Surviving are two daughters, Lorraine (Arthur) Vindal of Hudson and Roxanna (Vern) Thompson of Corvallis, Mont.; eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Preceding her in death were her husband, Henry, in 1980; a great-great-granddaughter; a great-great-grandson; her parents; and seven siblings. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor David Liddle of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will be at a later date. . Memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church building fund. She grew up in the Rice Lake area and on Nov. 18, 1922 she was united in marriage to Robert D. Johnson in Minneapolis, Minn. Dorothy and Robert lived at Range, before moving to the Little Falls area in 1938. The couple was blessed with 10 children. Dorothy would raise most all of the food for the family in her garden on their 160 acre farm. The kids would spend hours in the field picking vegetables for their mother to can. She also loved to grow flowers. Dorothy had a special garden planted during the war that was a large “V” for victory that people would drive out to see. Dorothy and Robert eventually moved back to Range where they opened Bob and Dot’s Drive-In. They ran this for many years before moving to the High Rise in Amery. On Thursday, Nov. 4 Dorothy passed away at Judy’s Cottage at the Golden Age Manor in Amery. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, one infant son, two grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-grandson, seven sisters, and two brothers. Left to mourn are her children, Mary Jane Holsten, Robert (Helen) Johnson Jr., Erma (Dale) Brist, Betty (Duane) McKinney, Theodora Green, Berdean Bottolfson, E. Ben (Sharron) Johnson, Dell (Erma) Johnson, Nick (Diane) Johnson; 43 grandchildren; 91 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Little Falls Lutheran Church with Rev. Jerry Schultz officiating. Music for the service was provided by Jim Haugerud and Debbie Teig. Nellie was born Nov. 13, 1914 to Herman and Emma Johnson on their family farm located between Cedar Lake and Star Prairie. On April 7, 1932 she married George E. Theis in New Richmond. From 1932 until 1943, Nellie worked with George in the various cheese factories that he operated. From 1943 to 1946 she worked as a bookkeeper for a produce factory in New Richmond. She also provided room and board to many people in her home from 1947 to 1953. In 1953 she went to work in the family business, Theis Appliance, which was an appliance, electronics, and interior decorating business. She was a partner with her husband George until 1972 when they sold the business and retired. George and Nellie enjoyed many great retirement years together. They especially like to travel, bowl, dance, play cards and socialize with their many friends. George passed away in 1992. Nellie was happiest when she was around people and maintained many lifelong friendships. She always accepted change and looked for the good in every situation. She was always energetic and left a lifelong positive impression on her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; sisters, Irene and Alice; and brother, Russel. She is survived by her brother, Percy Johnson; sister-in-law, Pearl Johnson; sons, George (Nancy) Theis and Richard (Char) Theis; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at First Lutheran Church in New Richmond with Pastor Larry Jorstad officiating. Music was provided by Dawn Budrow accompanied by Kathy Wettig. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Beebe Mortuary and also one hour before the service at the church. Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery. Sally was born Nov. 6, 1937 and raised in Waukegan, Ill. She was the only child of Edmond and Helmi Wasil. She graduated from Waukegan High School in 1955. On Jan. 19, 1957 Sally married her high school sweetheart, James R. Hansen. In the summer of 1969 they moved to Rice Lake, and they raised four children. Her love for family and travel led to many great family vacations. Sally made it to all 50 states, Alaska being her favorite. In Jan. 2000, Sally and Jim fulfilled their early retirement dream of moving to Haines City, Fla. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Helmi Wasil and a son, Jon Andrew Hansen. Sally is survived by husband, James R. Hansen; two sons, Michael (Gail) Hansen of Superior and Robert (Sheri) Hansen of Prairie Du Chein; two daughters, Sherry (Jeff) Jerry of Hudson and Patricia (Paul) Hubler of New Richmond; nine grandchildren, Alyssa (Joel) Nace, Brian (Stacie) Hansen, Robert (Pam) Hansen, Beth (Chris) Hoffman, Linda Jerry, Chris Jerry, Kim Hubler, Carrie Hubler, and Stephanie Hubler. Her family honored her wishes to be an organ donor and to help the advancement of medical science. Originally from New Jersey, Bill spent the past 29 years in New Richmond with his family. He was an honored Navy boatswain mate first class World War II veteran. Bill was the adored husband of Virginia, father of Patricia and Papa to Jennifer, William and Sevin. He was a kind and gentle soul who touched the lives of all who knew him.
