Rutty, a civil war veteran passed away Monday at 6:30 p.m. at his home on Liberty street. Mr. Rutty was born in the state of New York on March 8th 1837. When he was seven years old he came to Wisconsin with his parents and settled in Johnstown for a few years, and then moved to Dayton, Wisconsin where he lived until he enlisted in the 31st Wisconsin regiment and served until the end of the war. On Sept. 24, 1866 he was married to Adeline Doty of Dayton, at Evansville. They went immediately to their new home in northern Wisconsin. Two children were born to them, a daughter, dying in infancy. They lived in New Richmond until 1889 at the time of the New Richmond cyclone which destroyed their home and greenhouse. Mr. Rutty was instrument in starting the Masonic lodge at New Richmond fifty years ago and he and Mrs. Rutty were guests of honor at the fiftieth anniversary of that lodge last June. After the cyclone Mr. and Mrs. Rutty moved to Glenwood City, Wis., where they engaged in the hotel business. Mrs. Rutty passed away in 1921. He then came to Evansville to live with his niece, Mrs. A. H. Devine. He was married to Mrs. Mary Brigham in December 1922. He is survived by his wife, one son, A. E. Rutty of Chicago, an adopted daughter, Mrs. Frost Smith of Minneapolis, Minn., one brother, Wallace Rutty of Belleville and several nieces and nephews. His friends and acquaintances speak of him as the "old gentleman who was always the same," he always being cheerful and good natured. The funeral services will be held Wednesday at the home at 2:30 p.m. The body will be taken to New Richmond where Masonic burial services will be held, Friday. She enjoyed traveling, doing daycare and was a member of United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, Earl J. On Dec. 31, 1946, in Bessemer, Mich., she was married to Robert K. “Jack” Brande. She loved sewing, quilting, crafts, painting by number, going to rummage sales and Bible studies at church. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Hudson, a former Brownie Scout leader and a former member of the North Hudson Bowling League. Surviving are her husband, Robert “Jack” Brande of Hammond; a daughter, Sharon A. (Ken J.) Washick of Hudson; three grandchildren, Yvonne (Ed) Belland of Maple Grove, Minn., Richard (Tammy) Roos of Amery and Rebecca (Scott) Fraser of South Lyon, Mich.; five great- grandchildren, Stephanie and Nicholas Belland, and Joshua, Jessica and Jarica Roos. The funeral service was Saturday, June 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Booth officiating. Organist Debra McPhetres accompanied congregational singing. Visitation was Friday, June 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial was in Willow River Cemetery in Hudson where casketbearers were Ronald Ott, Bill Kotz, Wayne Bonse, Ken Clark, Scott Dardine and Roger Norelius. After graduating from Stillwater High School, she attended the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul with a degree in occupational therapy. On Feb. 20, 1954, in Stillwater, she was married to Louis Garni Jr. They moved to Ely, where she established the occupational therapy department at the Ely Bloomenson Hospital and Nursing Home, where she worked until her retirement. Surviving are four daughters, Rena Garni of Minneapolis, Paula (George) Welte of Bemidji, Minn., Nina (Ken) Wise of North Oaks, Minn., and Beth Ann (Mark) Wagner of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren, Teri Waite, Christopher, Kelsey and Spencer Wise, and Matthew and Michelle Wagner; two cousins, Katy Cartony and Karyl Belknap; and a brother-in-law, Joe Garni. He was born July 2, 1943, in Little Falls, Minn., the son of John M. and Bernice E. (Johnson) Haller, and grew up in the Hudson area attending St. Patrick’s Grade School and Hudson High School. As a young man in 1961, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and honorably served for four years. After serving in the military he was employed at North Star Steel in St. Paul as a maintenance engineer. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching sports and war movies. Surviving are two children, Robin (David) Vadnais of Woodbury, Minn., and Tracy Haller of Lake Zurich, Ill.; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Joshua Vadnais; his mother, Bernice Haller of North Hudson; and two sisters, Betty (Tim) Caruso of Hudson and Nancy (David) Bowman of Maple Grove, Minn. In 1977 he moved to New Richmond, purchased and operated the Erin Corners Bar and Store in the town of Erin Prairie, which he sold in 1980 when he moved to Spooner. From 1980 until seven years ago, he migrated between Wisconsin and Arizona. He remained in Arizona from 1997 until his death. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Norman, Marlin and Glen. A homemaker and full-time mother, she worked at Friday Canning Company and as a cook at the school. She was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and a participant in its activities throughout much of her life. She loved spending time with family and friends, cooking for others, gardening, playing cards and sharing stories and laughs. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jake, in 1983; a sister; four brothers; a son, Leo; a grandson, Michael Schouten; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua Schouten and Carter Sandquist. Surviving are three sons, Ken (Lorraine) Schouten of Emerald, Cliff Schouten of Baxter, Tenn., and Gerald (Deborah) Schouten of Hudson; a daughter, Karen (Robert) Bullock of Altoona; 11 grandsons, six granddaughters, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was born in Hudson June 14, 1914, the son of Lawrence and Pauline (Bleier) Williamson, and graduated from Hudson High School in the class of 1932. In 1937 he graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School in Minneapolis where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy’s Dental Corps for six years. He returned to Minneapolis after the war and resumed his dental practice on the north side for 42 years. Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother, Lawrence B. Williamson, in March 1991. Survivors are a niece, Chloe Louise (Patrick) Ramacier of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; a nephew, Lawrence P. (Nancy) Williamson of Hudson; and his best friend of 34 years, Milan Berndt. Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Washburn McReavy Davies Chapel in Minneapolis with private inurnment in St. Mark’s Episcopal Columbarium. She was the widow of the late Lloyd S. Gilbert, founder of the Gilbert Motors business in Hudson. She was born on Sept. 30, 1919, in St. Paul, the daughter of Walter L. and Victoria (Liberty) Tobin, and raised in the St. Croix Valley. On Jan. 18, 1939, she was married to Lloyd Scott Gilbert at St. John’s Church in St. Paul, Also in 1939 she and her husband owned and operated a feed mill (Hudson Elevator) and machinery business in Hudson. They began selling machinery and automobiles in 1948 in downtown Hudson and later moved the business to the “hill district” near I-94. The business, Gilbert Motors, was eventually passed on to their sons, L.G. and Donald. Today the business is called Denny Hecker’s Hudson Pontiac. Lucille was a dedicated volunteer for a number of organizations. She most recently was a volunteer at the historic Octagon House in Hudson, which is operated by the St. Croix County Historical Society. She was very much involved in the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, and in 1958 she was named the Scouter of the Year. She was also active as a coordinator for the American Field Service student exchange program in bringing foreign young people to attend high school here. She was instrumental in founding the North Hudson Pepper Festival. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing, knitting, golfing and traveling. Surviving are two sons, Donald D. (Carol) Gilbert of Hudson and Douglas J. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson with burial in Willow River Cemetery in Hudson. She was born, Feb. 10, 1934, in Woodville, the daughter of Clarence and Helma (Peterson) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville and was a member of the Hammond United Congregational Church of Christ at the time of her death. She attended grade school at Woodville and graduated from Woodville High School in 1952 as the salutatorian of her class. On Nov. 28, 1953, she was married to Rexford John Grinnell at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. She worked for the Hammond News from 1953 to 1962 and then at the Woodville Leader office from 1962 to 1997. She also enjoyed her grandchildren, fishing, watching sports on television and being outdoors. They lived in Woodville before moving to Hammond, but returned to Woodville in 1985. Surviving are her husband, Rex; two sons, Richard Grinnell and Randy (Cheryl) Grinnell, both of Hudson; two daughters, Brenda Grinnell (and her friend, Kip Lee), and Roxanne (Jeff) Hielkema, both of Woodville; two sisters, Irene (Gordon) Anderson of Spring Valley and Mildred (Galen) Anderson of Woodville; a brother, Donald (Darlene) Olson of Baldwin; two sisters-in-law, Eva Olson of Amery and Dolores Grinnell of Bruce; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Stanley Olson; a nephew, Gary Anderson; and three stepsons, Ricky, Terry and Roland Grinnell. The funeral was at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at the Hammond United Congregational Church of Christ with Pastor Jed Watson officiating. Organist Wendy Dusek accompanied congregational singing. Burial was in the Sunset Cemetery in Woodville, where casketbearers were grandsons Jason Grinnell, Jeff Grinnell, Jared Reinhardt, Bryce Reinhardt, Chad Gustafson and Trevor Davis. Visitation was from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Memorials are preferred. He was born April 3, 1973, in Eau Claire, the son of Thomas and Arlette (Gutknecht) Jorgensen. His mother, Arlette Jorgensen, owned and operated the Hudson Flower Shop on Locust Street for a few years in the 1990s. His childhood was spent in Eau Claire and in 1984 the family moved to North Carolina, where he graduated from West Henderson High School in 1991. He attended Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., where he graduated with a degree in industrial design in 1996. On Aug. 23, 2003, at the at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., he was married to Lisa Roche. He graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., with a degree in mechanical engineering in the spring of 2003. While at the university he led his team in the design, and building of a human powered submarine. His team won first place in the International Submarine Competition. At the time he died, he was employed as an engineer at Performance Cruising in Annapolis, Md., developing the Telstar Trimaran with his partner Neil Smith. Through grade school and high school he was involved in football, baseball, tennis, radio controlled airplanes and model making. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, fly fishing, scuba diving, salt water aquariums, water and snow skiing, rollerblading, playing the guitar and sailing. Surviving are his wife, Lisa (Roche) Jorgensen; his parents, Thomas and Arlette Jorgensen of Menomonie; a brother, Matthew, of Madison; a sister, Teresa, of Eau Claire; and his maternal grandmother, Lillian Gutknecht of Franksville. The funeral was at 11a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at the Evangel Assembly of God Church, 3906 Kane Road, Eau Claire. Visitation was at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial is in Forest Hills Cemetery in Eau Claire.
