She was born Feb. 9, 1937, in Luck, the second oldest of the seven children of Lloyd and Agnes Thompson. In her youth she enjoyed softball, cheerleading, roller skating, golf, and being a majorette in the band. She graduated from Luck High School in 1954, working at United Pioneer Home throughout her high school years. After graduation, she moved to the Twin Cities and worked at American Hardware Mutual Insurance. On Aug. 4, 1956, at Luck Lutheran Church, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Kreutzian. She started working at Dottie Darwin’s Beauty Salon in the early 1980s. In 1987, she and her daughter, Robin Lindvall, opened The Park Avenue Salon in Luck; she retired in 2003. She was an avid Minnesota Viking and Luck Cardinal fan and never missed her children’s or grandchildren’s sporting events. She also enjoyed the outdoors and spending time in her camper at Pine Lake, golfing, crafting, quilting, playing bridge, shopping, cooking and slumber parties with her sisters. Surviving are her husband Robert, of Luck; three daughters, Sherri (John) Hole of Hudson, Robin (Dave) Lindvall and Kelly (Ron) Steen, both of Luck; a son, Tom (Shari) Kreutzian of New Prague, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Brian Matthew (Elizabeth) Hole of St. Paul, Rob and Tyler Hole, both of Hudson, Roger, Avery and Parker Steen, all of Luck, Lance Lindvall of Luck, Lexi and Jack Kreutzian of New Prague. She was born Dec. 6, 1939, in Morris, Minn., the daughter of Murlen and Viola Stold, and attended school in Morris. On Sept. 24, 1961, at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris, she married Roger Miner. In the early part of their marriage, the couple lived in Lawton, Okla., while he served in the military. They moved back to the Midwest and raised their children in West St. Paul, Minn., as well as Hudson, Star Prairie, Roberts and River Falls. For the last five years they have lived in Baldwin. She was a homemaker and worked for the Toro Company in Hudson for a short while. She enjoyed being a grandmother, dancing, playing Skip-bo, whist, pinochle, Uno, dice and bingo, going on family vacations and visiting relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Brenda Miner; and brother, Richard Stoldorf. Surviving are her husband, Roger; children, Terry (Bryant) Ekstrom of River Falls, Roger Miner Jr. of Baldwin and Kevin (Melanee) Miner of Clermont, Fla.; six grandchildren, Logan, Kelsey, Nicole, Donald, Eric and Ian; a sister, Karen (Neil) Williams of River Falls; and a brother, Dean (Gloria) Stoldorf of Brooklyn Park, Minn. The funeral was at noon Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the First Baptist Church in Woodville with Pastor Dennis Tapp officiating. Music was provided by Dick and Ginny Lindus and Debbie Tapp. Visitation was from 10 a.m. to noon before the service at the church. After finishing high school, she moved to Madison and worked in various positions. Most recently, she was employed by the Union of Operating Engineers, Local 49 and she was proud to have worked on many bridge projects in Wisconsin and Minnesota. In life, she loved ’57 Chevys and spending time with her family and friends on her parents’ farm in Cable. Surviving are her parents, Irvin and Doris Frels of Cable; two sisters, Judy (Duane) Lewison of Madison and Debra Frels of Chicago; five brothers, William (Jill) of Columbia, Md., John of Faribault, Minn., Carl (Jessica) of Dalton, Penn., Chris (Rose) of San Diego, Calif., and Mark (Krista) of Cable; five nieces, Heisley, Shantal, Danielle, Jenna and Hannah; and two nephews, Ryan and Brandon. She enjoyed working with people as a nurse’s assistant at Community University Health Care Center in Minneapolis and prior to that at the International Clinic through Ramsey Hospital. Her interests centered around her dogs, cooking, doing craftwork and decorating for holidays. Her greatest pleasures came from spending time with her daughters. Survivors are her four daughters, Tahra, Asha, Mariah and Shayla; her mother, Janice Anderson of St. Croix Beach; a brother, John (Cathy) Anderson of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; a sister, Lori (Tony) Werner of Bloomington, Minn.; and a special friend, Tim Knutson of Wayzata, Minn. Preceding her in death were her father, John, and a sister, Shanda Anderson. The funeral service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Afton, Minn., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial was in Memorial Lutheran Cemetery’s memorial garden. On Oct. 26, 1957, she was married to Donald Bjornstad of Spring Valley at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson. She was employed as a secretary for many years at various companies. She began her career at State Farm Insurance in St. Paul and then as an English department secretary at Hudson High School. Later she worked for 19 years in the legal department at insurance company Fortis-Hartford in the Twin Cities. She took great pride in being a committee member for the Hudson High School class of 1955 reunion. She enjoyed traveling, going to the Ordway Theatre in St. Paul and spending time with family, friends and, especially, with her grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Donald; a daughter, Karen Bjornstad of St. Paul; two sons, Steven D. Bjornstad and Craig (Sue) Bjornstad, both of Hudson; five grandchildren, Mason, Austin and Kia Schullo, Caitlyn Bjornstad, and Ashley Bjornstad; two brothers, Robert (whom she helped raise) and his wife, Dawn, of Tucson, Ariz., and Dennis (Judy Wietz) Branchfield of Hudson; and two sisters, Janet (Douglas) Lundberg and Bonnie Jansen, both of Hudson. Preceding her in death were her parents, Beryl and Clara Branchfield. The funeral was at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson with Pastor Tim Booth officiating. Music was provided by organist Lori Peper. Burial was in the Willow River Cemetery with Dan Jansen, Denny Bjornstad, Jason Dierks, David Lundberg, Jeff Branchfield and Al Lundberg as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Scott Branchfield, Curt Lindquist, Roger Dierks and Bud Falde. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept., 3. She was born, Feb. 5, 1915, in Roberts, the daughter of Joseph Melvin and Hilda (Anderson) Iverson, and attended the Kinnickinnic Monument School and the River Falls High School. On July 1, 1939, she was married to to Lyle F. “Pete” Couch in Crookston, Minn. She was a devoted homemaker and also worked part time at Solsvig’s Grocery, Julian’s Grocery and for Emil “Chumo” Anderson’s store. Later she joined her husband, Lyle, in managing the 190-acre Rolling Hills Girl Scout Camp in rural Hudson. Dorothy took great pleasure to tending to her family and friends, was known as a great cook who made the best raisin cookies and banana bread. She also and enjoyed crocheting. Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Kennedy of Hudson; three sons, James Couch of Shakopee, Minn., Thomas Couch of Hammond and Wayne (Kay) Couch of Baldwin; six grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Couch, Kari (Scott) Benoy, Dennis Kennedy, Sherri (Mike) Scheierl, Becky (Gerry) Miller and Jimmy (Jessica) Couch; nine great-grandchildren, Cami, Kaylyn and Madison Couch, Morgan and Ryan Benoy, Jonah Scheierl, Samantha, Logan and Rylee Miller; and a brother, Gerald (Betty) Iverson of North Hudson. Preceding her in death were her husband, Lyle, in 1995; her parents; a brother, Harold D. Iverson, in 1991; and a sister, Mildred Marino, in 1969. The funeral service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson with Pastor Joanne Sorenson officiating. Music was be provided by Pastor Dean Simpson and his wife, Linda Simpson, of Cross Lutheran Church in Roberts. He was born Aug. 11, 1914, in Bay City, the son of Barney John and Gertrude (Brown) Flueger. He attended school in the town of Trenton, Pierce County, and then attended the University of Minnesota, School of Agriculture, graduating in 1938. He was raised and worked on the family homestead farm in the town of Trenton, and the family later moved to Goodhue County, Minn. On Dec. 24, 1940, he married Elaine Nugent, and they lived in various places in Minnesota but returned to Red Wing. During World War II, on May 26, 1944, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a combat engineer in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged Dec. 2, 1945. In 1949, he started Flueger Construction Company and additionally worked as a grading and soil conservation contractor. He also had a farm in Flower Valley where he raised sheep and crops. After his wife, Elaine, died Jan. 30, 1960, he married Sila Hall, April 28, 1961. He was active on the farm and with the company until his death. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing, the Burnson-Lilyblad Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 1218, the Land Improvement Contractors Association, where he was Contractor of the Year, the South East Minnesota Lamb & Wool Producers and the American Sheep Association. He also received the 1994 Distinguished Service Award from the Goodhue County Soil and Water District and the Soil Conservation Award from Pierce County. Among his enjoyments were gardening, farming, traveling, tree planting, beekeeping and bowling. He was a supporter of the Environmental Learning Center. Survivors are his wife, Sila; eight children, Heidi (Clark) Leeson of Hudson, Sharon Marty, Barney (Mary) Flueger, Susan (Tim) Nevitt, K.C. (Kimberly) Flueger, Joann (David) Anderson and Edward Flueger, all of Red Wing, and Nora (Todd Avery) Flueger of Eagan, Minn. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, Lisa, Scott (Deborah) and Dale Marty, and Pamela Fahnlander; Kirk (Terri) and Michael (Sharon) Leeson; Valerie, Heather, Alicia and Ryan (fiancee Cassandra Kosidowski) Flueger; Jamie and John “Jack” Nevitt; Patrick, Alison and Kevin Flueger; Katee, Amy and Jessica Anderson; Sierra, Marley and John “Johnny” Flueger; six great-grandchildren: Carley, Nadine, Riley and Sylvia Marty, Mathilda and Piper Leeson; a brother, Dale Flueger of Red Wing; and two sisters, Virginia Atkinson of California and Barbara (Carl) Jackson of Woodbury, Minn. Preceding him in death, besides his first wife, Elaine, were a sister, Elizabeth Gisslen, and a son-in-law, Dick Marty. The funeral was 10 a. m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Church of St. Joseph with Father James Notebaart presiding. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, where pallbearers were eight grandsons: Scott and Dale Marty, Michael and Kirk Leeson, Ryan, Patrick, Kevin and John Flueger. The Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing was in charge of arrangements. Peterson, 96 Friday, September 03, 2004 Vangie T. Peterson, 96, of St. Paul, who in former years was a frequent visitor in Hudson, died Tuesday, Aug. 24 at the Presbyterian Home in Roseville, Minn. She was the widow of Ernest C. “Ernie” Peterson, former executive vice president of Brown & Bigelow in St. Paul, who died 1997. They were married in Essex, Iowa, in 1931. For many years, from 1957 to 1973, they maintained a residence on Bass Lake, in the town of St. Joseph, St. Croix County. The also formerly lived in Edina, Minn., and in Sun City, Ariz. She was born in Bird Island, Minn., April 5, 1908, the daughter of George and Alma (Anderson) Tennis. One of her greatest pleasures was entertaining family and friends, either at home, on their boat or in later years in Sun City. Surviving are two sons, Dwight (Marge) Peterson of North Oaks, Minn., and Bruce (Therese) Peterson of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren, Scott (Jenny), Kent, Brett (Robin), Elizabeth, Michael (Jill), Chanda and Chad; and several great-grandchildren. A memorial service was at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, at Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church in Minneapolis. Private burial was in Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis.
