    1. Update to Senate legislation
    2. Scott and Roxanne Munns
    3. Senate Bill 2845 has passed the Senate without our suggested wording. One of the provisions that did pass reads as follows: "ISSUANCE TO FAMILY MEMBERS - Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary, in consultation with the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the States, shall establish minimum standards for issuance of a birth certificate to specific family members, their authorized representatives, and others who demonstrate that the certificate is needed for the protection of the requestor's personal or property rights." Assuming we were not successful at getting our language in the bill, it looks like our next shot is to get our language in the minimum standards, making it clear that the States are free to issue non-certified copies to the public. You are free to forward this to other interested parties as you see fit. David E. 1. Genealogists, take action!
    2. Scott and Roxanne Munns
    3. Dear Researchers, I believe that the following information is important to all of us! Roxanne ListHostess New Bill Will Close Records to Genealogists HR10 has passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives and is now part of S.2845. The amendments suggested by David Rencher in his letter to the bill's sponsor, Congressman J. Dennis Hastert, were NOT incorporated into this legislation. Thus, the terms of HR10 will now be considered by the Senate, as part of S.2845. If S.2845 becomes law, as now written, family historians will face some real challenges in attempts to obtain birth records, even on long-deceased individuals. Specifically, what genealogists need to do is suggest to their lawmakers the addition of Sec. 3061(b)(1)(A)(iii) that would read: "who is alive on the date that access to their birth certificate is requested." This addition would clarify that the legislation (soon to be law) applies ONLY to birth certificates of CURRENTLY LIVING PERSONS. If you do not know your U.S. Senator's e-mail address, you can find it at http://www.senate.gov/ This bill can be found online at http://thomas.loc.gov/ Put in S.2845 (in the bill number window) and then select item No. 3; and go to Subtitle B -- Identity Management Security; Chapter 2 -- Improved Security for Birth Certificates. Surnames: Michaelson, Muckenhausen, McCutcheon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3FC.2ACI/3781.1 Message Board Post: John, I don't know any of these people for certain, but anything's worth a chance... In "Hudson 1900 - 1909: A Rail - River Town", it lists a Halvor Michaelson on p. 86. A few people have volunteered to do lookups from this book at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wistcroi/lookups.htm. There are many MICHAELSONs listed in the Hudson High School Alumni Directory, though. It's hard to say whether your Halvor is the one meant. One of the volunteers to do lookups is a MUCKENHAUSEN - she may be able to help you with Frederick/Fred. There is both a William and William Henry McCUTCHEON listed in the index for "History of ... St. Croix Valley .... 1881". (The index is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wistcroi/1880History/historyindex.htm). The text of the book is at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wistcroi/1880History/text.htm. The "History of St. Paul's Episcopal Church" lists a William McCUTCHEON on p. 44. Again, you could ask for a lookup as above. In "Hudson 1900 - 1909..." there is a Bill McCUTCHEON on p. 86. I'm afraid I don't see any matches for the rest of the names you've give below. Quite a few of the surnames match, but not with the give names. Hope this helps! Roxanne
