He was born Nov. 10, 1919, the son of William and Maude Moelter. His marriage to LaVonne Randall of Stillwater took place Jan. 12, 1942. For 45 years he and his brother, Roy “Bud,” operated Moelter Construction Company. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Club No. 179 of Stillwater and a past master of St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 1. Preceding him in death were a son, Gary “G-Man” Moelter; a brother, Roy “Bud” Moelter; and a sister, Ruby Pauley. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, LaVonne; and four children, DeeAnn (Jim) Read of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Sandy (Gary) Moelter of Stillwater, Randi (Marie) Moelter of Rutland, Vt., and Kevin (Jan) Moelter of Houlton; grandchildren Richard and Sherri Kuehl of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Peggy Moelter of Hudson, Kathy Ann Plahn of Roberts, Zack Moelter, USMC, of San Diego, Calif., and Megan Moelter of Stillwater; and a great-grandson, David Plahn. Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Mable and Horace Easland, Ruth and Clyde Amick and Edward Heller. Visitation was 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. The funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Assembly of God Church in River Falls with pastors Kent Boyum and Mike Bechtold officiating. Burial was in Irving Creek Cemetery in Menomonie, where pallbearers were Nathan Belz, Seth Belz, Jacob Lovell, Adam Lovell, Rhajimas Holmes and West Belz. An honorary pallbearer was Erland Brager. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society. He was born Dec. 23, 1925, on the Pleasant Valley farmstead, the son of Oscar and Inga (North) Bakke. He received his schooling in the Pleasant Valley Grade School and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1944. He was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of Rush River Lutheran Church. He never married and was a devoted farmer his entire life. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle and generous brother, uncle and friend. He was an avid sports fan and earlier in life enjoyed fishing with his brothers. Surviving are four sisters, Hazel Stinson of Baldwin, Marion Olson and Doris Ramberg, both of River Falls, and Corrine Wogan of Dawson, Minn.; two brothers, Walter (Helen) Bakke of Hudson and Howard (Maxine) Bakke of Baldwin. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Lyle, and a niece, Diane Ramberg Klein. The funeral service was at 2 p.m. May 29 at Rush River Lutheran Church, with. Pastor T. Michael officiating. Music was provided by organist Phyllis Chapin who accompanied vocalist Larry Knutson. Anderson, 87 Walter Richard “Wally” Anderson, 87, a longtime Hudson businessman and car dealer, died Saturday, May 24, at the Christian Community Home in Hudson. He was born on Nov. 6, 1915, in St. Paul, the son of Adolph and Gertrude (Engstrom) Anderson, and was a graduate of Johnson High School in the class of 1934. During World War II he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army overseas for four years in North Africa and Europe, from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946. On Oct. 29, 1942, in St. Paul, he was married to Sybil Linnerooth. He began his career in the automotive industry as a sales manger for Finch Chevrolet in St. Paul. In 1954 he and his family moved to Hudson when he purchased the Arneson Chevrolet and Garage at 101 Walnut St. The business name was changed to Anderson Chevrolet and operated under that name until his retirement in 1980. He was an avid skier and golfer and was a charter member of the Hudson Country Club (now Hudson Golf Club) serving as its president in 1958-59. He was one of the first members of the Hudson Rotary Club and was president in the late 1950s. Another of his enjoyments was playing bridge. Surviving are his wife, Sybil of Hudson; two sons, Richard “Rick” (Vickie) Anderson of Park City, Utah, and Kim Anderson of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Christine “Chris” Fagnan (Charles) Olson of Minneapolis and Lisa (Gib) Lewis of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Rob and Kari Fagnan, Tara and Brett Anderson, Krista and Anders Lewis. The memorial service was at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson with Pastor Van V. Bredeson officiating. At the service Layton James was organist and accompanied vocalist John Rudeen. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at church. Burial was in Willow River Cemetery in Hudson, where full military honors were provided by the Hudson Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials are preferred. Guy was born in Jackson County, Minn. Aug. 5, 1922 the son of Rueben W. and Mable (Johnson) Wilbur. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sgt. in the South Pacific from January of 1945 through September of 1947. Guy married the former Evelyn Louise Cochran May 31, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1992. A mechanic all his life, he worked for various businesses, Lunds of River Falls, Hudson Ford Garage, Roberts Implement, Gilbert and Tobins of Hudson, St. Croix Storage and the City of Hudson. His hobbies included working on family and friends’ machinery and his antique Ford vehicles. He also farmed for many years on his farm in Roberts and was the long time project leader for the Roberts Ribbon Reapers 4-H Club of Roberts. He was ever so proud of his being a member of the Hudson VFW and American Legion Posts as well as St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Guy leaves to celebrate his life children, Jean Marie Evenson of Amery, David Lee Wilbur of Bourbonnais, Ill., Sue Marie Dux of Roberts, Paul Lee Wilbur of New Richmond, Grace Marie Hoyer of Roberts; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His wife, Evelyn Louise (Cochran) Wilbur, and infant daughter Rose Marie Wilbur precede him in death. Visitation was Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, Hudson and continued Thursday from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Szleszinski. Interment in the church cemetery with full military honors was provided by the Hudson VFW. Strate, 82 April 3, 1921 - May 26, 2003 Russel C. Strate of Roberts died peacefully at his home May 26 surrounded by his family after one month of being diagnosed with an aggressive leukemia (AML). Russ was born on April 3, 1921 in Woodbury, Minn., the son of Clarence and Florence (Schilling) Strate. Russ received his elementary schooling at District 27 in Woodbury. He would sometimes ride his pony to school and would start the fire to get the one-room school building warm. Russ’s deep interest in dairy farming started in his early teens. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Krueger May 5, 1951 at the Woodbury United Methodist Church. This union was blessed with children Daniel (died April 30, 1955), Arlen, Joel, and Lynn. Russ enjoyed his children and treasured spending time with them. He was ever so proud of their achievements and watching them mature into loving parents themselves while installing good moral beliefs as well as strong Christian faith. Russ’s gifted and great sense of humor was experienced by everyone whom he had contact with. He thoroughly enjoyed life and loved farming the land sensing God’s hand in it all. Woodbury was starting its growth when Russ realized the land couldn’t be farmed much longer. He and his family made Roberts their home in 1970 where they continued farming. Russ served on the board of directors of South St. Paul Oil Association (now Cenex) and was supervisor for Warren Township for several years. Thank you dear Lord for your love shown in many ways through Russ which will live in our hearts forever. Russ leaves to celebrate his life his loving wife of 52 years, Marjorie; sons, Arlen (Laurie) Strate of Roberts, Joel Strate of Roberts, and daughter Lynn Strate of Apple Valley. Russ will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Tawnya, Jonathan, Jacob, and Alex. He is also survived by his sister Bernice Gausman of Baldwin. Russ is preceded in death by his parents, son Daniel and sister Ruth Strate. Celebration of Life for Russ Strate will be 11 a.m. Friday May 30 at the Woodbury United Methodist Church. Pastor Rodney Liverett of Hammond’s United Methodist Church will officiate. Organist Patty Bjorklund will accompany congregational singing. Pianist will be Russ’s niece Barb Larrabee who will accompany the singing of Gene and Louise Smallidge. Postlude and prelude instrumental music will be played by Nathan, Jessica, and Leith Wilson. Burial will be in the church cemetery with casketbearers being Melvin Volkert, Roger Lindquist, Ken Brown, Tom Sullwold, Bill Krueger, and Bob Boyd. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4 until 8 p.m. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to Heartland Hospice and Homecare (P. O. Box 487) Hammond. He was born to Helen and Edward Kenitz Nov. 22, 1939. Jim was born and raised in Rochester, Minn. served in the U.S. Navy for a time and relocated to St. Paul. He was married in 1966, fathered three daughters while residing in the Twin Cities area. Jim was a dedicated salesman for Able Craft Fabrications for many years before going to work for Plastics International. On July 3, 1998 Jim married Patricia Schnitzler and moved to New Richmond. Jim enjoyed golfing to the extent that he designed a miniature golf course, and he loved being outdoors by the water. He enjoyed his grandchildren and he was looking forward to the birth of his first great-granddaughter. He also enjoyed his pets and the art of invention. Jim will be sadly missed by his wife Patti; daughters, Joleen Kenitz of Chatfield, Minn., Kimberly Kenitz of Minneapolis, Minn., and Tara Kenitz of Rochester; step-children, Melissa (Ed) Fazekas of Somerset, Bethany (Jim) Hendee of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Laura, Mike, Cody, Dayne, Jessica, Mercedes, Alexandra, Spencer; two sisters, Betty Lou Graf, Margaret Radke; one brother John Kenitz; and his dogs Vicki and Bear. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Francine. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 31 at the First Lutheran Church in New Richmond with Pastor Larry Jorstad officiating. Organist was Kathy Wettig and vocalist is Bill Leahy. Honorary casket bearers were Mike Cozik, Dayne Schneibel, Vaughn Jensen, and Ed Fazekas. Visitation was held at the church for one hour prior to the time of the service on Saturday. Interment will be private. He was born July 16, 1944, in Durand, the son of Donald Lyle and Josephine Edna (Hubbard) Thibado. In July 1993, he was married to Sharon Parker in Menomonie. He was a “jack of all trades,” a nature lover and liked to hunt, fish and garden. Surviving are his wife, Sharon of Menomonie; a son, Richard (Katherine) Thibado of Menomonie; five stepchildren, Terrance Marshall of Cudahy, Todd (Bonnie) Angiolo of West Allis, Frank (Michelle) Angiolo of Milwaukee, Vincent (Kathy) Angiolo of Eau Claire and Kurt (Lara) Kruchton of Horicon Marsh; four grandchildren, Brian, Dylan, Amanda and Kayla; and many step-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Virginia (Karl) Kunz of Hudson and Jeanine (Julie) Thibado of Florida; three brothers, William (Audrey) Thibado of Downsville, Jerry (Julie) Thibado of Wilson and Steve (Barbara) Thibado of Menomonie; and his mother-in-law, Ruth Parker. Preceding him in death were his parents and a nephew, Duane Karl Kunz, in 1988. A celebration of life service was at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie.
