    3. Hi Kathleen St. Croix County Courthouse is in Hudson Wisconsin in the same building as the courthouse. I-94 to exit 2 go north past golf course until you see it on the left side of the road. Probate and land records will be found there along with birth marriage and death records after 1907. I am more familiar with Polk Co records, so I cannot help here. University of River Falls Library in the basement is Archives room with cemetery listings and tombstone abstractions in most cemeteries in the three county area. Also they have census microfilms of state and Federal census and microfiche of birth, death and marriages before 1907. They have microfilms of the actual birth death and marriage certificates on those found on microfiche. They have many homestead records also, ask the librarian for assistance. They also have many biographies in the card catalogue behind the desk. They also have newspapers on microfilm back to the late 1860s, depending on the newspaper. The library may have new summer hours, so I am including email to the archives librarian so you can contact her. Laptops are OK. [email protected] Keep in mind that River Falls is in two counties. Pierce County records are in Ellsworth. Hope this helps a bit Joy Kathleen Perelli wrote: > I am hopefully planning on coming to the St. Croix, Hudson, River Falls area > on a genealogy trip in the very near future - possibly end of June. 3. Kathleen, Birth, marriage, death, probate, and land records should all be at the St. Croix County courthouse (mostly in the Register of Deeds office). I have their phone number and address on the website at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wistcroi/vitalrec.htm. I would suggest giving them a call to find out exactly what you need to do research in their office. The Register of Deeds in many Wisconsin counties do require a picture ID the first time you research in their office. They'll also be able to tell you about the electronic equipment they allow, as well as copying costs if they don't allow scanners (some don't). Next, I would look at the Area Research Center in River Falls for other records. Their contact information is on the same webpage I listed above. They should have newspapers, sometimes they also copy (to microfilm) much of the vital records from the Register of Deeds, cemetery transcriptions (by the local genealogical society), etc. The St. Croix Valley Genealogical Society does much of their research from this Area Research Center, so they may be able to help you find the answer to some of your specific questions. Anyone else have some recommendations? These (to me) have been the biggest help during my genealogical journeys in Wisconsin! Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3FC.2ACI/1962.1.1.3.1.1 Message Board Post: I just received the death certificate for Willard P. Carr. He died in River Falls, WI in 1899. The Carr book may not be as far off as I thought. Willard was born in Ashfield, Mass. So were his parents. His father's name on the death certificate is Ambrose Carr. His mother's name is unreadable. Willard's family moved to NY when Willard was about 2 years old in 1836. That is about all I know about his ancestors. Any help in verifying this would be greatly appreciated.
