    1. [St. Croix] Ickler Obituary, July 11, 2003
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Ickler, Gausman, Brandeman, Heinbuch, Cernohous, Volkert, Ptacek, Aichele, Shilling, Lovestrand, Hanson Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3FC.2ACI/2386 Message Board Post: Thursday, July 17, 2003 Leonard Luther Ickler, 94 July 9, 1909 - July 11, 2003 Leonard Luther Ickler of Hammond and formerly of Roberts died Friday, July 11 at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury following complications of hip surgery. Leonard was born July 9, 1909 in St. Paul, Minn, the son of Julius and Sarah (Gausman) Ickler. Leonard grew up on the family farm in St. Paul. He attended Mounds Park Elementary and graduated from Johnson High School. Following this he furthered his education at Dunwoody Technical School. On March 10, 1935 Leonard was united in marriage to Marie Francis Brandeman at Sacred Heart Church in St. Paul. This union was blessed with children, Delores, Carol, and Robert. The Ickler’s sold their land to the 3M Corporation where they would construct their well known headquarters on I-94. They moved to Lake Elmo and continued farming. In 1957, the Ickler’s moved to Roberts where Leonard continued his love of farming. Leonard’s story telling and dry sense of humor will be missed by many. If you had the fortune of knowing Leonard, you knew he loved to drive around visiting others. Earlier in life, he enjoyed dancing, deer hunting, fishing, and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. Leonard’s philosophy on farming and life was simple, “Do it the right way or don’t do it.” This way of life was passed down to generations and can be seen in children and grandchildren. For years, he served as an assessor for Kinnickinnic Township. Leonard is survived by his children; Delores (Herman) Heinbuch of Hammond, Carol (Paul) Cernohous of Spooner, Robert (Barb) Ickler of Roberts, grandchildren Steve (Renee) Heinbuch, Debbie (William) Volkert, Scott (Diane) Heinbuch, Robert Ickler Jr., Julie Ickler; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Karl Heinbuch, Vickie, Bill, and Dan Volkert, Jason, Megan, and Jenna Heinbuch, Mitchell and Nathan Ptacek. Leonard is preceded in death by his wife Marie in 1998, granddaughters Shari Ptacek and Shelly Cernohous, brother Harris Ickler, and sisters Francis Aichele and Elva Shilling. Funeral service for Leonard Ickler was 11 a.m. Monday, July 14 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Baldwin. Pastor Paul Lovestrand officiated while organist Jan Hanson accompanied congregational singing. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hammond. Active casketbearers were Leonard’s great grandsons while his great granddaughters served as honorary casketbearers. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin. © 2003 New Richmond News - Reposted by permission http://www.newrichmond-news.com/Main.asp?SectionID=3&SubSectionID=54&ArticleID=6840
