I just read your 23 JUN 2009 message! I knew that conversions were being "encouraged" by the Catholics, but didn't know that much of this just done for registration purposes. I would be interested to know more. My maternal side of the family come from Galicia. My paternal side from the eastern side of Poland. My grandparents (both sides) immigrated here in the early 1900s. I was born in Hamtramck Michigan, and was raised strict Catholic there. I moved to California some 30 years ago for graduate school and ended up staying there. I married a Jewish man. We were married in a "Jewish/Catholic" ceremony, and we are raising our children Jewish but in the Reform tradition in order for them to be defined as Jewish.
