I was able to pick out Victor Wisniewski. Due you know if he was from Russia Poland? I'm not sure if this is my husband GreatGreat grandfather or not. First time I have seen a Victor. He does have relatives in Il. We have found the surnames have changed spellings alot on all relatives. What Wisniewski are you looking for? Was Krawiecki ever spelled Krawczyk? We found a Boleslaw Krawczyk as a Godparent. Regards Sue W

    1. Catherine Wisniewski
    2. I am new to this list and I am trying to find the rest of my grandmother's family. Her name was Catherine Wisniewski, she was born in 1882, and she came to America in 1901 per 1910 census. Her sister Anna came through Ellis Island in 1905 at age 15 (or older) with her brother Jan age 10 and sister Stefania age 7. They were going to their father Jozef in Detroit. Their mother was named Theophila and there might have been another brother named Stanley. Catherine and Anna were found on the 1910 census in Milwaukee. Thank you for any help. Barbara from Milwaukee

My WISNIEWSKI Family is from Wielowes--near Pakosc. I descend from Jan Wisniewski who came to America in 1893. He settled first in Shamokin, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania and then moved to Cudahy, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin by 1900. Other related names include NOWAK, JURSKI/JURSKA, LOSINSKI/LOZINSKI, HILKOSKE, AND SHUBERT To name just a few. My great grandfather's information was from: the Family, an obituary, the cemetery stone and a US Federal Census. The other birthdays/dates are not proven--but by family traditions or stories. I was told that Jon's brother, Kazimierz, was a postmaster in Poznan...all my great-aunts agreed on this. They were not certain what their grandfather's name was but several of the older great-aunts thought it was Andrezj--others thought it was Francizek. Some thought that one was the name of his patron Saint and the other was the name which the family called him by--but no one really knew which was the patron Saint name and which was the name his family called him by. A copy of a legal document from Northumberland County states, " Personally appeared before me, the clerk of the Orphan's Court of said County, Jon Visniskie and Elen Novoc.. Age of Man: 25 years, born Prussia, Poland; Residence Coal Township, PA/occupation: miner Age of Woman: 21 years, born Prussia Poland; Residence Coal Township, PA/occupation: domestic Parents of the man: Andreco and Wostise Visniskie Parents of the woman: Martin and Stanislava Novac on the 20 January 1893. Married in Shamokin, PA: February 13, 1893. So I am more inclined to believe that Jan's father was Andrezj. My only living great aunt says: " Joanna whom you ask about is the daughter of Maria Jurska (nee WISNIEWSKI) and they still live in the village of Wielowies. She is single. She has a living brother Franciszek (Frank). In the Jurska family there was a daughter: Joanna, Salomiea, Pelegia, Zofia and Franciszak. I used to correspond with Zofia but she passed away...that letter was sent to me in 1985...so Zofia must have died before 1985. The legal document I have for Antoinette SHUBERT (nee WISNIEWSKI) uses the name F. Wisniewski as her father's name--so the confusion about whether the father's name is Andrezj or Franciszek still remains: From the Death Certificate of Antonette Shubert File # 5632/Register # 54: Place of death: 759 East 21st Street, Ward 5 Female/White/Married aged 56 years, 8 days occupation: Housewife Birthplace: Poland/ Father: F. Pelagia, I know even less about. all I know is that there was a Mrs Lazinski who lived in Milwaukee...and she was in some way related to Jan..I don't know if this was Jan's sister or a descendant of Pelagia's.
