    1. [WISNIEWSKI] Catherine Wisniewski-Detroit MI
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Wisniewski/Okalski Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UEXBAIB/185 Message Board Post: I'm looking for info on both my grandparents. This is what I know: Catherine Wisnieski was b. 1898 in Detroit, both her parents had been born in Poland. She married Stephan Okalski/Okalskij/Okalsky probably before 1924. Stephan was b. 15 Jan 1894 in Warsaw Poland. They lived in Hamtramack and had Harry Okalski b. 27 Jan 1924 (my father) and Martin b. Aug 1929. I found some of this on the 1930 Census. The last name was spelled Okalsky or Okalskij. Sometime after that they bought a farm in Richmond, MI. They also had son Daniel and daughters Margaret and Robin. Catherine died about 1963 and Stephan died 1982. Stephan continued to live and work in hamtramack during the week and only went to Richmond on the weekends. If any of this sounds familiar and you have any other info I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thank you, Jaqi (Okalski) Morris

    1. [WISNIEWSKI] Re: Need help locating town of origin or Naturalization papers
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Immigration Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UEXBAIB/183.1 Message Board Post: Most people went to the court closest to them, usually a county court. Most researchers will find that their ancestors became naturalized in one of the following kinds of courts: county, supreme, circuit, district, equity, chancery, probate, or common pleas court. The reliability and depth of the information given on the papers depends on the time they were naturalized - Before 1906, the declaration of intent generally contains more genealogically useful information than the petition. The declaration may include the alien's exact date of immigration into the United States. However AFTER 1906, it's the opposite - The declaration contains preliminary information and may have incorrect dates of arrival and anglicized names. Petitions after 1906 have information that has been *verified and matched* to an immigration record. For more information and details on what's what with Naturalization records, and how to find them, see http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/ Read the intro (it explains what's available and where) then choose your state(s) of interest from the state list at the bottom of the page. Each state has 3 pages - one is an overview of what Naturalization Records survive. Second is a Directory of Links to online records (if any have been transcribed for that state) Third is a Resource Guide, with film numbers, addresses etc for finding offline records. Be sure to let the pages load, then scroll down to read the information on each page. Good luck! Lorine

The letter 1/Sgt.Charles J Wisniewski, 36105487, sent to my Aunt after my Uncle Walter was killed, was dated 5 March 1945 from Paris. He couldn't have been your Uncle Chester. I have my Uncle's military information from the archives but have not searched for Charles Wisniewski's. Good luck with your research and if you ever find a connection, I'd be glad to send you a copy of this letter.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UEXBAIB/182 Message Board Post: I am trying to find out any information on my Great-Grandfather. All I know is that after coming over from Poland, he settled in the Wilkes-Barre, PA area. He was a miner. He married a woman named Anna (possibly having a maiden name of Evasic) and had children Henry, May, Marcella, Blanche and Tessie. He then abandoned his family (this is what was told to me) and I don't know what happened to him after that. Anna and her children relocated to the Detroit, MI area. She remarried and took the last name of Watroba. Henry Wisniewski is my Grandfather. I was wondering if anyone is possibly related. Thanks!
