Hi Kristi, I am sorry you haven't found the website to be useful. You are correct, alot of it is not complete, yet. Would you be willing to help? I can use all of the help I can get. I am not trying to make any excuses, but I thought that even just the indexes right now would be better then only one section at a time until all of the parent names, etc. are there. As for alot of the sections being bare, the marriages, anniversary and so on are there for people to share. It is impossible for me to obtain the newspaper articles for all of the marriage, anniversary, obits, etc. and place them on-line. I feel by spending the time and money to copy every newspaper or almost everyone, it would be less helpful to the researcher then the current tidbits. The vital indexes are coming along. Yes, I know some of them have parent names and your right, most of them don't, right now. I felt getting the index on-line was as important as adding the parent names to them. Sheboygan's vital indexes don't list the parent's names like Manitowoc's birth indexes do. Every parent name you see listed there is from going to the Register of Deeds and looking up each record or from my personal research. I wish I had more time, I truly do. I would love to do nothing more then genealogy all day, but I am a home mom and my children come before anything else in my life. I hope the researchers can understand that. I have supplied the address and cost to obtain the vital record and I try to go there as much as possible. You are correct in many ways. Right now when I get to the Register of Deeds, I spend all of my time hand copying the vital indexes to be able to add more information to the website. I only had the indexes copied to June 1907 and as you can see on the contributors page, that was alot of donations to get those. Anyway, I feel by adding more indexes and not parent names right now, I am allowing the researcher a better chance of seeing if an ancestor was born or married here. I will be adding the death indexes next. I have ordered two census microfilms with the extra money left from the donations for the vital indexes. In time they will be added also. Kristi I am sorry if you find my site useless. I do the best I can. I have placed my own genealogy on hold for a long time now so I can help others with there research. I love genealogy and I enjoy helping other people. I can take constructive criticism and I will rethink my way of doing this website, as I said I am doing this to help other people and if it isn't helping others, then I need to change something or maybe even it is time for me to move on and let someone new take over. When I add something to the county, I think to myself if this would be more helpful in my own research and that is how I am going about things. Maybe that is what isn't working. If anyone has anything they would like to say to me about the website, please feel free to -email me in private. I am not trying to hide from any criticism, but I feel the mailing list can be used for better things. On the other hand, perhaps if others sent their ideas to the mailing list, then together we could make this the most useful site on the web. I will try to make things better for everyone, I am truly sorry if you are sitting back patiently waiting for this site to become useful, please forgive me. I do want to say one more thing. I do take great pride in my county pages. I have visited many genweb counties with much less on their sites, on the other hand I have also visited some with much more. I will try to work harder on it everyone, I promise. Debie
Debie & fellow Sheboygan list members, I hope you'll forgive me for also posting to the list, but I've got to say that I've been doing genealogy for 25 years now, and being at quite a distance (California) and unable to run "a few miles" into town to do research, the Sheboygan page is one of the best, if not THE best I've come across. Under "Vital Records" so many other pages simply print an address to write to. Now THAT is disappointing! At least here I can look up my ancestor's name, and if it is listed, I know I can write for more info & it will be there. Debie, you've put not only time and effort into the site, but also of your own money, and I, for one, really appreciate all you've done. Please, keep up the good work. I wish I were closer so that I could help more. Thank you Debie, and all who have contributed to make this site what it is! Bonnie Hartmann Laguna Beach, California
