Mueller Harley F. "Slim-Doc" Mueller, age 85, of 1504 Humboldt Ave., died peacefully at his home Saturday morning Feb. 10, 2001. Harley was born in Sheboygan Jan. 7, 1916, to Arthur and Theresa (Drews). He attended local schools. Harley served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II in New Zealand with the 32nd Red Arrow Division. Following the war he returned to Sheboygan and became employed by Armour Leather Co. where he had worked for over 30 years until his retirement in 1978. On Jan. 13, 1973, he married Ruth Mattson of Sheboygan. The couple resided in the 2800 block of South 17th Street for many years. Mrs. Mueller preceded him in death on Oct. 28, 1998. Harley enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was well known for his golfing skills, winning the caddies tournament at Riverdale Country Club on several occasions. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharlee and Jerry Schaafs, with whom he made his home; two granddaughters, Jodi Ann (Steve) Heim and Rachel Marie Schaafs, all of Sheboygan; a brother, Myron (Ginnie) Mueller of Sheboygan; sisters-in-law, Lorrie Mueller, Delores Mueller and Janna Mueller; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, Harley was preceded in death by four brothers, LeRoy, Henry, Carlos and Ronald and three sisters, Laverne Burhop, Carol Strysick and Bernice Riley. A memorial service will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the Ballhorn Funeral Chapels. The Rev. Gregory S. Whelton will officiate. Interment will take place in Lutheran Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held at Ballhorn's on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
