Hi All, I wanted to let you know what is new in Sheboygan County. Amy is now adding all of the current obits to the Genconnect page. These are the obits that appear in the local newspaper. She is not including the names of any living relatives, those are being omitted by my request as I don't want to place any living people on-line if at all possible without their permission. I am sorry that nothing new has appeared on Genweb within the last 10 days, it has been a bad time around here for me. My husband has been in the hospital and I simply have not had the time to sit down at this computer and get the pages created. I do promise as soon as things return to my kind of normal around here I will kick back in and keep going with the census's, parent names and vital indexes. Please be patient. Hello, I am new to your list and I am trying to find out information about a Martin Sichter that settled in this area after emigrating from Beisenbrow, Brandenberg, Prussia. I have information that Martin was born in Prussia 20.8.1843 and his oldest son Eduard Sichter was born in Fond-Du-Lac in 1890. My G-G-Grandfather Martin Friedrich Sichter b 1818 in Prussia and emigrated to Australia in 1864 may have been Martin's (b 1843) brother. How would I find out when Martin Sichter arrived in America? Hi All, I guess I need to write, if for nothing else maybe for opinion only. Something has been bothering me all day and maybe my thinking is wrong, here goes, let me know what you think. I received a letter this morning from a friend of mine. She had gone to a website and found that her genealogy information was on-line under someone elses name. Not only the branch of the family this person belongs to, but the whole genealogy she has worked many years on. Not only was it on-line under another person's name, but it was on a pay-per-use board, which means someone, not the submitter, is making money off of her research. I find this to be very unfair, she did the research, she ran down the sources, hit into the brick walls, found ways around them and this person is taking the credit for her work. Now, I know that names and dates can not be copyright, but the notes, format, etc. can be and I feel that the submitter violated her copyright on this material. What do you all think about this? I know Rootsweb says that if it appears on a Genweb page or Genconnect board, it is copyrighted by the submitter and if it is archived, it is property of the archives, but the original submitter still holds copyright on the information. Even down to an obit or bio that was shared. I didn't know what to tell my friend, I felt so bad for her, but then it came to dawn, I have shared my information with others, the same exact thing could happen to me. I thought their was a code, secret or unwritten that if someone shared information with you, you made it your source, therefore protecting their information, unless you had proof that you re-checked all of their work and added your own information or additions to it. It saddens me to think that this could happen to anyone of us and if it continues to happen, the point will come where no one will share information with each other anymore for fear of having their hard work turned into someone elses name. A cousin of my husband's stopped sharing because someone else burned him this way. Please, think before posting it as your own, maybe ask the other person for permission to post the information. Am I wrong in my line of thinking? Please feel free to tell me, just don't bash me, ok? Hi All, I have finally gotten through the "He" birth indices and have gotten them on-line. Their are 1995 names, so I broke this down into two files. Amy has also been busy and got the "Hi" birth indices done also. They can be found under the vital records section on-line. I have added the first two Unidentified photos to the webpage, remember, if you have any, feel free to submit them. Now, I would like a little advice from anyone with knowledge on this subject. I have recently upgraded to Windows 98 and my old Hijaak 95 program doesn't work well with 98 for some reason, so i want to check into upgrading picture converting programs. I want one that will deal well with Windows 98, can convert or handle any photo extension and will also make thumbnails. The thumbnails being one of the important parts to this. Does anyone have knowledge of a good program that will do all of the above? If so, please, please e-mail me and let me know about it and what it is called. For right now the Unidentified photos will have to be clicked on to see them, when I upgrade programs I will create icons to go right on that page so you won't have to go to each file to see the picture. Hi Everyone, I am trying to keep you all updated as best I can with the limited time I have for now. My husband ran into a medical emergency about 10 days ago, he is recovering but it is very slow, so thus leaves me to run the entire household and take care of him in addition to everything else going one. I have not forgotten about my Genweb pages, they just have to be on hold for a little bit. For Sheboygan County I am getting the indices scanned in as quickly as possible. I do not have the time to work on them right now, so please be patient, I am hoping my life returns to normal soon. For Calumet County, I have no idea where we are standing with the indices I ordered. If anyone living in Calumet county has a few spare minutes, would you please call the Calumet County Register of Deeds for me and inquire as to what is happening with the order for the vital indices, the order is under my name. I would really, really appreciate it. Ok Everyone, I need some help here. Does anyone have about an hour a month free to spare? I need an archivist for Sheboygan & Calumet county. I am so far behind getting these things into the archives, I don't know when I will get caught up. Initially it will take longer than an hour a month because as I said I am behind in uploading these files and turning them into text files, but after that is caught up, it is literally a small amount of time.
