Hi Listers, I was sent a website that I thought was pretty neat. You can order copies of Naturalization records on-line. I also linked the website to the main WIGenweb page for Sheboygan county. Here's the url for those who are interested: http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/Library/arch/citizen.htm AOL Users: <a href="http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/Library/arch/citizen.htm">http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/Library/arch/citizen.htm</a> Happy Hunting, Debie
Hi Everyone, Randy Leonard, the person who originally told me of the book has taken the time to type alot of information out about the book, including a complete list of surnames. Please read this letter if you had been thinking of purchasing the book before you buy it. I am not out to sell a book for anyone, only trying to help fellow researchers in anyway possible. I feel alot better now knowing that no one will be blindsided buying a book they may never be able to use. Happy Hunting, Debie Blindauer History of Kiel The book is a paperback book of 8-1/2 " X 11" in size and 184 pages in length, plus an additional 16 pages of photos (2 photos/page). Each section of the book provides a narrative on the subject, typically pertaining to the people involved, the event and the location. The book essentially focuses on the city of Kiel, how it was founded, stories about the founders, its business and development, and the people of the community. There is little discussion of neighboring communities. Hi Listers, I write this letter with sadness. Due to many things going on in Amy's life right now, she has decided to step down as Co Coordinator for both Calumet and Sheboygan Counties. Amy has been a wonderful help to the website and will be missed. She has helped in transcribing alot of information and was truly a God send when my mom was going through her surgery and cancer treatments. Amy helped to keep the websites going while I was away taking care of my mom and even after my mom's passing, Amy still kept the sites going while I finalized things. I would like to take this time to thank Amy for everything she has done and for the time she has put into both Sheboygan & Calumet counties. I will remove her name and e-mail as soon as possible from the website, but I ask for your patience during this small transition. I wish Amy all of the best, Debie
Hi Listers, I received this e-mail and thought it may be of interest to some of you. I have created links from the main page of the Sheboygan County WIGenweb page, but thought I would also share this with the listers. >Hello, >I would like to tell you how much I was impressed by your fabulous website >about the history and genealogy of Sheboygan County! Hi Listers, I am writing to give you a warning about a scam that is running wild. There is a new website called Family Discovery. This website charges a fee for a trail or for "lifetime" membership. What this website has done is went around and created a bunch of links using frames. When you click on one of these links, it appears to still be a part of the website. This is one of the reasons all of my pages has the box on top of each page letting people know this information can be accessed for free. In the past Family Discovery has created these links to Genweb sites and other people's material and left the impression it was material they put together on their own. I am just warning each of you as the letter below is being sent to people who have posted to the Genconnect boards and also to Genweb coordinators. You do not get anything here that you can't find on your own or by going to Cyndi's list, which is free. You don't have to sign up to this website as they have nothing that can't be found free. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying you can't sign up, I am just letting you know that you can obtain the same information by using other means, The letter that is in circulation is attached below, Have a great weekend, Debie Welcome fellow Genealogist: We have taken a notice of your interest in genealogy as you have been highly recommended to us by another genealogical publishing company. Hello, fellow listers, I was wondering if anyone out there might have some history on the famous Anne Oakley? I'm trying to track down a story my father told me several times to see if it is true or not about his grandmother and Anne Oakley. My father had claimed that his grandmother was a better shot with the gun than Anne Oakley. If it is true then I am a proud owner of a gun that should have gone to Anne Oakley but was beaten by my grandmother. Any help or suggestions on where to look? Kim Pollard
Hi All, I have added a few more sets of marriages on-line. Just to forewarn you all, Fortunecity is having some sort of major problem with uploading files. I had lost the main index for all of the county vitals for about a day. I did manage to get that back on-line this morning by using their uploading protocol, but that is also with problems as it takes 10 to 15 minutes to get one file uploaded. On-line from this weekend are marriages Ra - Rh, which completes all of the R marriages to basically 1907, I still have hand copying to do to bring them to 1930. Also on-line are the I, O' (as in O'Hearn, etc.), & Pa - Pk. I have only uploaded the groom's files. I have cross indexed the brides, but because of the problems with uploading I have not attempted to upload the bride's files today, those will come as soon as they get their problem fixed. I wish you all a safe and Happy New year, may the very best come in 2001 for all of you, Debie
Hi Everyone, Just wanted to drop you a quick note to wish you all the best for the New Year. I know it has been slow lately in adding information to the website, for that I apologize. I have been adding the state births with the help of John Klein, we are up to the F's now. I also have help with transcribing the marriages. Bonnie Hartmann and Holly Homan have chipped in their transcribing skills with some of the marriages, so they will be getting on-line at a faster pace. Bonnie has started the D's and the first section of them are on-line. I have also started a cross reference for the bride's surnames that are in files separate from the grooms. As most of you know Sheboygan county didn't cross index them. A group from the Sheboygan County Historical Research center did take on the task of cross indexing the bride's surnames up to I believe it is 1917, so that book is at the R. of D., but I haven't requested a copy of those. I am transcribing or taking what other's have transcribed and cross indexing them from those. If the names aren't there that you're looking for, please keep checking back, they're coming. I wish you all a safe and Happy 2001 and may all of find a way around those genealogical brick walls, Debie
Happy New Year to All! Been meaning to send this to the list. I won a contest for a preliminary report to be done at the Mayo (Ireland) Family Research Center for my Patrick QUINN/Catherine CONWAY. They couldn't come up with anything specific for my family, but they did a great job, even checked for a few neighbors from Town Mitchell which I had sent to them. So... they sent these. I'm sure they belong to some on the list, but don't know if this is anything you already know... Anthony NAUGHTON, son of Thomas NAUGHTON and Mary CARNY from the townland of Breafy, in the parish of Kilmormoy/Ballina. He was born on the 19th of March, 1824 and baptised on the 22nd of March, 1824. His sponsors were Thomas ROACH and Eleanor NAUGHTON. No further reference was located. Mary JORDAN, daughter of Anty JORDAN and Brigid HOWARD, from the townland of Faye, in the parish of Kilfian. She was born on the 1st September, 1835 and baptised on 3rd September, 1835. Her sponsors were Pat CORMACK and Winifred HOWARD. No further reference was located. Hope this helps someone. Bonnie Hartmann Laguna Beach, California but born in Sheboygan...
Hi List, I was wondering if anyone had access to "Portrait and Biographical Record of Sheboygan County" (1894). I found the index of this book online, but now need someone to lookup my ancestor to tell me what it says about him. His name was August STROEDE, and he's listed on page 270. Many thanks, Michelle The site mentioned above is: http://www.idreamof.com/history/wi.html
Listers I wanted to pass this along in case any of you were looking for North American Indian relatives in hopes that this would help. Kim Pollard << THE OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL TRUSTEE FO AMERICAN INDIANS (OST), OFFICE OF TRUST FUNDS MANAGEMENT (OTFM) This is the url for a goverment site. I want to thank you all for all of the VERY positive responses. Many of the mail list administrators have stated it is all right to continue to post the reminders I am choosing not too. I did not solely join the county mail lists to place a weekly reminder on them. I felt I could contribute to others research not only by having a gathering place (weekly chat), but I have also answered many questions for many different researchers on the various county mail lists. I was hoping to help others. Should anyone need information on the Wisconsin Genealogy weekly chat-I have this information posted on the Waupaca County Website at the following address http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwaupac/index.htm. I will will continue to post chat reminders on the Waupaca County mail list, WauShaOcon Mail List and Wisconsin Mail List. Hope you all break through those brick walls and find those lost ancestors-have a great week! I guess I didn't feel once a week email would unset anyone and that it would let the new people to the lists know of the weekly genealogy chat. So this will be the last notice of the weekly chats. I have repeated the instructions below and feel if anyone is interested in the weekly chat can print this out and refer to it for information. Hope to see you there Sunday night and happy hunting! Here are step by step instructions- 1-Go to the site http://huntsville.about.com/citiestowns/southeastus/huntsville/mpchat.htm 2-Click on Log on to chat in the upper left area of the screen. This takes you to another screen. 3-At this screen type in your name or a name you are going to use in the chat room in the space next to Nick name. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TYPE ANYTHING ELSE IN ANY OF THE OTHER SPACES. Once you have typed in your name, click on OK, connect in the lower left. 4-You are in the chat room. Type your message in the lower left space where it says Type here and then hit enter. A few helpful hints. There is a list on the right side of the screen of all the people who are in the room. To enlarge the screen for easier reading click on the float button in the upper right hand corner. To enlarge the font, also for easier reading, in the space where you type your message type *chat fontsize 14, this will enlarge the font size. Hi Everyone, I made an error yesterday in telling you the marriages were on-line from Ri - Z. Although I did upload the files, I didn't create the links to get you to them. I guess I should have given up sooner on moving the pages and getting the search engines to work and gotten some sleep. Well, either way, I did fix this biff and you can access the marriages on-line from the Vital index page. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail, I am sorry for any trouble this caused to any of you, Happy hunting, Debie
I sent out the following request last week but had computer problems and lost the answers. Would you please comment again. Mike Are there any city directories for Sheboygan available online for the 1920s/1930s? I'm trying to find a lead to my Bezonic (Bezonick) relatives from the period. Couldn't find an living Bezonics in the current online whitepages. Mike Fox
Hi All, Guess I am really tired. I forgot to mention I have started to add the marriages for Sheboygan County. I have Ri - Z on-line, for right now they are on-line as they are indexed at the Register of Deeds office, by groom only. I will work on getting them indexed by bride also as soon as I get caught up with the material others have sent to share for the website. Thanks again for your patience, Debie
