    1. Thank you
    2. Josh Pangier
    3. Thank you to all who responded to my post regarding the Sheboygan White Pages. I was hoping that some of the Pangier's were left in the area. A lot of you responded by stating to check out the search engines on line, like www.whitepages.com. I have done that too but not everyone is listed on those. I found that neither was my father-in-law nor brother-in-law were listed, or myself on any of the ones recommended. I guess it is always good too double check your sources:) Thanks again everyone for your help. Paula

    3. Hi List, I was hoping that one of you might have a current copy of the Sheboygan White Pages and would look up a few addresses for me. I am looking for any Pangier addresses listed. I am hoping that there maybe one or two individuals with this last name in the area still. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paula

    1. I wanted to warn everyone that Family Discovery is back
    2. Kim Pollard
    3. Hello All, I received a email x2 from some people called "GenTruth". In the body of the email they go on to say Excrept from my email: Inside this issue of In The Spotlight, we are going to discuss the different aspects of Family Discovery. If you have not heard of, or don't understand this service, be sure to read on and learn everything you need to know about their service. Family Discovery offers an online-based genealogical research tool. They provide a unique service that many researchers don't understand. When it comes down to it, they offer a pay for use search engine. At first, this sounds like an absurd place to spend your time. I mean, there are tons of free search engines out there. Why would someone pay for access to one? End excrept. (didn't want to waste your email space) If you haven't received your copy of the junk mail you can email me and I would be happy to send it out to you so you don't become one of the many that have been had by these people. 3. Hi Listers, Just a quick note to let you know that FamilyDiscovery has taken on a new look. A few of my friends and I received an e-mail tonight informing us we were signed up to a new "free bi-weekly newsletter". We didn't have an option to subscribe or not, we were automatically subscribed. The name of this newsletter is called GenTruth. Upon further examination of this "newsletter" we have found that it is a new form to advertise FamilyDiscovery. To those of you who have been on the mailing lists for a while now, you may remember these people. For those of you who are new, we want to notify you of this "company". FamilyDiscovery is a web-company that charges a fee (either a 3 month trial or one time lifetime fee). Over time the company has become a bit more truthful as to what it does, originally it linked to other people's free on-line information. Now it does claim that this is a genealogical search engine. I am not telling you not to be subscribed to the newsletter. I just want to make you aware that you can access everything on the internet that they can show you and you can do it for free. If not from a free search engine, then from Cyndi's List. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail any County Coordinator, Happy Hunting, Debie P.S. For those of you interested in the url for Cyndi's List it is: http://www.cyndislist.com/ AOL users: <a href="http://www.cyndislist.com/">http://www.cyndislist.com/</a>

    1. Why can't we use this on those Census images?
    2. Kim Pollard
    3. Okay, I normally wouldn't pass this to the list, but there are times when I would love to be able to read those Census images better that are too black, have tape on them, or other stuff. Why does NASA have to have all the good technology for reading ancient text? If you have an interest in Science, Archaeology, or Pompeii take a look at this site. I know it doesn't have much if anything to do with Genealogy, but maybe we can sneak one of the machines out and re-do those census images. http://www.msnbc.com/news/562226.asp?cp1=1#BODY Kim Pollard -- http://www.cableone.net/jamez/family.htm Check out some of the other websites I'm running. http://drew-ms.netfirms.com/ http://www.fortunecity.com/westwood/beautiful/877/ or http://nav.to/Merick

    3. To add my two cents in not that it will do too many of the folks in Wis. any good. I went to the library the other day to select the next set of books to do lookups from for states in Tn, and Ms. (if you have relatives there contact me and I'll look them up). In one of the books there was Mississippians in the Mexican war rosters. In the book they made mention to the Miss. Dept. of Archives and History having the records in their custody. Goodspeed's Biographical & Historical Memoirs of Mississippi was published out of Chicago in 1891. The rolls were printed in that book. Some of the rolls were reprinted in the following book. What I'm getting at is maybe your library has a nice gem in its corner shelf that is overlooked. I certainly didn't expect to find this type of book in our tiny little library in a town of 2,500 people. The book that I have on loan from the library is Mississippi Genealogy and Local History Vol. 3, 1974 by Gillis. It was a magazine that was published in the state four times a year. 2. Good timing! Just got an eMail yesterday for records check of a possible relative that served in the New York 5th Volunteer Regiment. The webmaster of their site provided the following address to me for accessing the Union Military Records of the Civil War: www.nara.gov By the way, mine was listed as M.I.A. in March of 1865, a P.O.W. on April 6th of 1865 and released from duty (mustered out) on the 13 of April of 1865, then turned up in Huron County Michigan in the late 1890's. Not sure exactly what is on this site. I think it has links to their various documents that they mail to you, you fill them out as best you can and then snail mail them back. No idea the length of time involved for retrieval of information, if they have any. Don't know how many of you would be interested in this site. It is for German Soldier war deaths of WW1 and WW2: www.volksbund.de I was able to find the oldest brother of my mother, that died in 1915, in Ypres, Belgium from the effects of a mustard gas attack. Gave everything right down to line number, plot number and grave number of where my uncle is buried. You should have some knowledge of the German language or a quick access German-American dictionary close. There is an online page asking you why you are accessing, what relationship the individual is etc. Downside is that I keep getting brochures in the mail (In German), asking for donations so they can continue their research-work in finding more graves. 3. Hi Robert, Thanks for the information! I have already been to the NARA website regarding the Pensions records but got confused over which forms I need to fill out. Someone told me I had to file Form 80 but according to NARA website if you are ordering Pension/Military files that are over 75 years old you need to order Form 85 or Form 86. The last time I ordered from NARA it took 3 months to receive the information. In general people are very friendly and helpful. For that I am grateful. Not living in the area it is kind of difficult for the rest of us to do much in the way of contributing because we don't have much in the way of sources to contribute.
