Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2FC.2ACI/1528.2.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Cynthia -- I'd be willing to bet that this is him. In both cases, the 1880 census and the 1900 census, the data was probably not given to the census taker by Washington himself. In the first case, it was probably given by the head of household, in the second case, an administrator at the alms house. So the age might have been a guess at best. It look's like the the alms house later became the Fond du Lac County Hospital? The current cemetery listing for Fond du Lac county, shows a cemetery on the grounds of the county hospital. I'd guess if this was the location of the old alms house then perhaps W.W. Warner might be buried there. And I'd also guess that you might have some luck finding records. I checked the cemetery listing at the State Historical Society and it doesn't look like they've transcribed anything from that cemetery. You may want to put a query on the Ancestry.com Fond du Lac bb and find out if anyone knows anything about it there. It is sad that your ancestor might have ended up there. But it is an interesting story, showing how life back then could be very difficult. Good luck with your search! Peggy Hoffmann

Hmmmm -- how interesting. You have been so kind to help me with this. I can't believe you found him. It makes me sad to hear of him in an Alms House though. Must have been a hard life. You have been so great to find this for me! Cynthia

I was thinking about that last night -- that I wonder if he moved to a neighboring county. His DOB was 09/07/1827 -- so the age would be close. I haven't subscribed to ancestry.com yet, but sounds like I might have to bite the bullet and do that. Thank you for so kindly looking this up for me!! This guy has a bunch of us stumped. Listed as age 75 (doesn't really jibe with the 1800 census), living in the Alms House in the township of Fond du Lac. The information is very sketchy for him in this census, no birthplace listed, nothing but age, sex and race. So probably the info was given by someone other than the actual person listed which may account for the age difference. It could have been a guess. Most of the residents probably would have been buried in the same cemetery, so maybe you can find him buried in Fond du Lac. And if he lived until 1900, there might be a death certificate for him in Fond du Lac Cty that would confirm whether this was your Washington Wright Warner. Peggy Hoffmann

Charles and Emily and Pearl and Walter and Harold and Elsie Warner, who are in Union Cemetery are my relatives. There is some mystery around Washington. He remarried in 1875 after divorcing his first wife (who also remarried) after they had MANY children. After he marries his second wife he sort of disappears. We think he died before 1880. While I know this guy's name, he has been so darn elusive! Can you tell me what reference you use for checking this kind of thing? Is it something I already have access to or could purchase somewhere? I have so many relatives in Sheboygan County (I grew up only a mile from Woodlawn Cemetery!) and some are really hard to find. I thought for sure Washington Wright Warner was there . . . wonder where the heck he ended up. I don't know exactly when OR where he died. With the help of several other Warner family members, this line dates back to the early 1600's in England. Thanks again for your help -- it was very kind of you to check! clh

It is not the county level that has the screwed up indexes. The state level index has the S counties mixed up. Sheboygan County Register of Deeds does have the right births for this county. Please keep in mind, back then the births started out at the county level and then went to the state, unlike today where they are sent to the state and then forwarded to the county. All of the Birth vital indexes for Sheboygan County, that belong in Sheboygan county are currently on-line.
