Gustav was born Martin Friedrich LEMKE 10 Apr 1860 in Ortwig, Kr. Lebus, Brandenburg, Germany to Martin LEMKE, b. Oct 1791 Germany & his wife, Caroline Wilhelmina RAASCH b. 7 July 1829 in Ortwig, Kr. Lebus, Brandenburg, Germany. The interesting story is that Gustav came to the USA [arr Nov 13, 1882 on the SS Weisland] to look for his older brother (name unknown). In researching the Evang. Church records from Ortwig, Germany, Gustav did not have an older brother. His father was married previous to his marriage to Carolina Wilhelmina, and we assume that he had children in that marriage. So Gustav had to have been searching for his half brother [prob born between 1811 - 1850]. The story goes that Gustav went first to near Antigo, WI where his brother was last heard from (cutting wood) but his brother had already moved on. Gustav went on to the New Ulm, Brown Co., MN area where he met and married his wife (1888). They farmed in various locations in MN, and finally settled on a farm just South of Fargo, Cass Co., ND in 1905. Gustav d. 1910 [a month before his last child was born]. His newspaper obit says they were waiting to hear from "relatives" before finalizing funeral arrangements, but the family does not believe he ever found his brother. Gustav's sons said that their Dad persued at least two other Lemke families (Senator Lemke from ND & the Lemke family near Sabin, MN) but they had determined that they were not related to each other. I always figured that I would, some day, find the brother ... as we knew who was Gustav's Mother (she came over in 1888 and is buried next to her son), but of course, the HALF brother throws a real wrinkle in that plan. So now I am searching for a LEMKE whose father was a Martin LEMKE from Ortwig, Germany. As LEMKE is a fairly common name in Germany, it is not an easy task, but I keep hoping. Because of this, I have gathered a lot of info on various LEMKE families. I have posted a lot of it on my LEMKE list on yahoo. Have you checked there? Or let me know what you know about your line and I will check what I have. Sharon

William is the right age. And there is a son, Lewis/Louis living in the house who is about the right age. Wallace and Waldemar are probably one and the same. And I would assume huckster means merchant. I don't know why they are buried in Wildwood instead of in a cemetery in Sheboygan Falls. But there they are -- I think. You could probably get more information from a death certificate. There would most likely be one available for G. William since he died in 1900 and that might give you more information, including his place of birth, if you don't have that. I can also see if there is an obit for him the next time I go to the library. If he was a merchant, there would probably be at least some mention in the paper. Hope this helps. Peggy Hoffmann

About a year ago I posted a message in reference to a Trester family (railroad people) that lived in Curtiss, Clark County, Wisconsin. The text of the message was that this particular family was originally from Waukesha County (sorry, I do not know the city) and had basically moved north when the Wisconsin Central Railroad made it's way through Central Wisconsin. The time period of this event was between 1890 and 1920. One of the daughters (do not know the parents names) married my grandfathers brother in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Township of Colby, Clark County, Wisconsin. Her name was Anna Marie geb. Trester and basic family information was given as birth in Waukesha County on May 31 1886. Her marriage to Alexander Wilhelm Herman Lipprandt was on March 17 1906, death was October 21 1979 in Abbotsford, Clark County, Wisconsin. She is buried at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery (aka North Green Grove), Township of Colby, Clark County, Wisconsin. She had four children, Walter (no children), Lydia (Bierbaum) (five children), Helen (Grube) (twelve children) and Elvira (Rausch) (five children). If the above information proves of interest to you, please contact me and I can give you eMail addresses of some of the descendants. I don't know what Hubert did or when he arrived in Milwaukee. I heard at one time that the Tresters had come from Sheboygan. Originally they came from the Alsace Lorraine area of Germany--although it might have belonged to France. My dad always said that Trester had been spelled Trestaire a long time ago in Europe. My parents traveled to Europe about 18 years ago and found a store named Trester Wines--and brought back a bottle of wine with the Trester label on it. We are looking for any information that may be available about Maria Katrina Heker, aka Hecker, aka Radtke, who married Carsten Jess on April 11, 1872 at the German Reformed Church in Sheboygan. We are particularly interested in finding out who her parents were, if and where they lived in Sheboygan, when Maria immigrated to the U.S., and the name of her town or parish in the Duchy of Mecklenburg. We have been told that she was born on August 27 in 1852 or 1853. Thank you, from Stanley Zuris

Hi Listers, I am not real sure what is happening here or why, but it appears that Ancestry has had a burp stuck or something. I have noticed an abundance of messages coming through the gateway to the mailing lists from the boards. These messages are not new one, some of them are actually 2 to 3 months old. I do recognize some of them from going to the mailing list the first time, so I am not sure why they are coming to the mailing list again. From what I can see, Sheboygan and Calumet counties are not the only mailing lists having this problem. I have had a couple of digests full of gatewayed messages from other counties coming through tonight as well. I am trying to check into this and find out the Y's, How comes, and the when it will ends. So far I have no answers, but will let you know when I do. I have also tried to remove the gateway until this is cleared up, however I have not been allowed to do that either. I have to assume something went glitch someplace. Sorry for the abundance of extra e-mail and for any inconvenience this is causing to any of you. I will keep you updated as I receive answers. If you have any questions, please e-mail and ask, Debie Sheboygan & Calumet County coordinator
