My husband and I are traveling across country this summer and expect to be in the Sheb. County, Wis. around June 29, 30. We are hoping to find some people and sites, the address of the old homestead, records, etc. and to connect with family. My mother Myrtle Desmidt (born in 1907) grew up in Battle Lake Minn. Her father was Abram son of Jennes Desmidt (son of Abraham) and Elizabeth Claerbout. Anybody know of any family still living in the Sheb. area that might want to meet us? Kathy

Hi: Many thanks for the information on the Hemptons! Joseph and Louis are both part of my family. Warm regards, Donna
There was a blurb in the Sheboygan Press April 15, 1927: "Mr. & Mrs. L Hempton moved their house furniture to Milwaukee" Also this blurb - maybe relative: Sheboygan Press May 4,1912: "Joseph Hempton, Manitowoc, visited in the city yesterday" ----- Original Message ----- From: "'Tis Herself" <hempton@newnorth.net> To: <WISHEBOY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 26, 2003 9:58 AM Subject: [WI-Sheboy] Hempton > I am still trying to find my Hempton family who lived in the Sheboygan area in the late to mid 1900s at least. > > Donna > > > ==== WISHEBOY Mailing List ==== > This mailing list is maintained by > Debie Blindauer > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >
I am still trying to find my Hempton family who lived in the Sheboygan area in the late to mid 1900s at least. Donna
Debie, The following is what is in the 1880 census. The next searchable index I have is 1920, but she must have been married by then. George was still living in Sheyboygan area at that time, in town of Alto Roll T625_1987 ED 19 sheet 2B I would suggest going to http://www.anywho.com/ . There are lots of Hoekstra's in WI. I am not familiar what towns are close to Sheyboygan, but would start calling those in close proximity. 1980 Census Place 4th Ward, Sheboygan, Sheboygan, Wisconsin Family History Library Film 1255448 NA Film Number T9-1448 Page Number 280A Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace Sjoerd HOEKSTRA Self M Male W 61 HOLL Millwright HOLL HOLL Durverje HOEKSTRA Wife M Female W 58 HOLL Keeping House HOLL HOLL Gerbin HOEKSTRA Dau S Female W 28 WI Painter HOLL HOLL Alida HOEKSTRA Dau S Female W 26 WI Dress Maker HOLL HOLL George Jesse HOEKSTRA Son S Male W 18 WI Clerk In Hardware Store HOLL HOLL Maggie HOEKSTRA Dau S Female W 20 WI At Home HOLL HOLL Hope I have been of some help, Pat in Arizona - Searching LEHNERZ, GERLACH, TOECKES(TACKES) ----- Original Message ----- From: <jmartz@bytehead.com> To: <WISHEBOY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: May 25, 2003 8:37 PM Subject: [WI-Sheboy] Hoekstra family in Sheboygan > Message Board Post: > > Looking for info on the Hoekstra family from Sheboygan, possibly in the mid to late 1800's. IL on census for Cape Girardeau MO, Hubble Twp 2. Couldn't find John Legg but will look some more. There are quite a few by that name and I didn't check them all out. 3. Wm Worstman age 30, male white born in IL census shows him in WHATCOM County WA, Sumas Pct. Hope this helps. Yvonne Recker in Milwaukie OR --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Classification: Cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2FC.2ACI/1729.1 Message Board Post: The oldest Catholic church in Sheboygan City is Holy Name which started keeping records in 1850. The Catholic Churches in Sheboygan county can be accessed through the Milwaukee Archdioce, phone number 414-769-3300. Their website is www.archmil.org. A few months ago I was in Sheboygan and went to the church. They told me to contact someone at the Archdiocese who does all the look ups. The cemetery this church is mainly associated with at that time is Calvary or also dubbed the North Side Cemetary. Luckily, I had visited the church back in 1994 when they still did their own researching and was able to get a lot of information. If they weren't buried here they might be in Wildwood. Calvary's data is not computerized and to look up the records they search the index cards by the last name you requested. The problem is if the person was buried in some other family's plot. The indexes are only by the person who owned the plot and not by who was buried. Good luck!

Hello, Im trying to find informations about my great-grandfather Peter Marx Toval ELVERS and his life in the USA. He lieved in Sheboygan township with his (half-)brothers and their familys. Ive got the following informations: He was born at the 21.10.1875 in Itzehoe in the north of Germany. With his wife Elisabeth Anna Christina Hartmann he has got 4 children: Heinz, * 1906, my grandmother Adda Christa, * 1909, Gerda, * 1911 and Ilse, * 1920. They lived in Flensburg. In 1928 (I dont know the exactly date.) my great-grandfather immigrated without his family to Sheboygan. His family should come after him, but they dont do it. The marriage of Toval and Elisabeth wasnt divorced. One or more (half-) brothers of him immigrated before him in the USA and he was going to them. The only half-brother I know was Heinrich Friedrich Gustav Elvers. He immigrated with his wife Christine in 1881 to the USA. I believe they have 2 sons: Henry, * 1886, and Arthur, * 1889. Henry was married with Regina and they have a son who is called Alvin, * 1915. The name of Arthurs wife was Fanny. I dont know anything about children. My great-grandfrather was a painter; perhaps he has worked for his brothers or nephews who should have a company. In 1930 he lives with his nephew Henry and his family in the Georgia Ave. in Sheboygan township. Arthur and Gustav live with their familys in the city, too. In the 40th or 50th years my great-grandfather makes suicide; I dont know the exactly date and reason. Do you perhaps know the persons or the names I told you? It would be very nice if you can help me to find any informations about my great-grandfather and his family. Thanks a lot for help. regards Britta mailto:Britta.Bielfeldt@t-online.de http://Britta.Bielfeldt.bei.t-online.de - Ahnenforschung in Schleswig-Holstein und Sachsen
