Rooney (1844-1865) and John Rooney (1849-1862), brothers buried in the Town of Mitchell. Both men served for the Union. John died at the First Cold Harbor/Gaines Mills. Michael died after the war, as a result of his wounds. They did not appear to enlist through WI however. The Rooney family apparently was in Akron, OH first, and then moved to Mitchell in Sheboygan County. It is believed they enlisted there. Does anyone know how I can find out more about the military service of these two? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2FC.2ACI/1700.1.1 Message Board Post: Kathy, Since posting the message regarding Maria, I found out that when her brothers said she was living in Holland, they meant the Netherlands. She apparently was the only one of Abraham DeSmidts children who did not emigrate. The rest of the family came to the U.S. together, including a married daughter and her husband. I obtained a lot of information about the early DeSmidt ancestors from a Dutch website containing extracted civil registrtion records. (zeeuwsarchief.nl). The Sheboygan County Historical Society in Sheboygan Falls is a wealth of information on the area. They have many indexed records and pictures and the volunteers are very helpful. They even have pictures of Jennes DeSmidt and his wife Elizabeth! I did not have time to locate/contact any descendents, but was told there are many DeSmidts still living in the area. Good luck, and if I can be of any further help let me know. Monica

    3. I am not a relative but there is/was a Monitor family in the Western area of Taylor County (Medford). I would assume from a branch of those that you have mentioned when Taylor became a county and farm land in other parts of the state became a premium. However there still may be a connection. The Molitors seemed to be one of the families that migrated together to Wisconsin with some of my other ancestor family names, such as Casper. Specifically they mostly settled in the neighboring county of Fond du Lac, in the towns of Taycheedah, Calumet, and Marshfield, which border Sheboygan County. My census images seem to be down this morning but there are the following probable Molitors in the 1860 Wisconsin census: Nicholas, age 30, Greenbush, Sheboygan Co.; Jacob, 49, Calumet, Fond du Lac; John, 48, Taycheedah, Fond du Lac; Mathias, 36, Roxbury, Dane; Mathias, 56, Holland town, Sheboygan Co.; Nicholas, 46, Granville, Milwaukee; and Philip, 51, Kaukauna, Outagamie.

The 1910 census has a William Webb, living on a "small farm" in Greenbush. His wife Maud is the daughter of Solomon Johnson and Martha Davis. My father, Alton A. Johnson (1911-2000) told of how his family made a trip from Forest County down to Greenbush to visit family, and how 'Billy' Webb had some trained bears. That is all I can remember of Dad's story.
