Fifteenth street, on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary, Sunday. A purse of gold was presented to the couple in honor of the event. A dinner was enjoyed and the day was spent in the manner that people gathering in such an occasion would enjoy, talking over past events, listening to victrola and other music, and having an all-around good time. Mrs. Wilhelmine Luedke was born on November 5, 1854and Wilhelm was born on February 8, 1851. Both are natives of the village of Mechlin, province of Brandenburg, Germany, and they were married there on November 7, 1876. They came to America in 1880, settling in Chicago. After remaining there five years, they came to Sheboygan and have resided here ever since. Mr. Luedke’s occupation has been that of light farming. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Luedke, of whom seven are still living. They are: Charles Luedke, Mrs. Anna Hurtienne, Mrs. Ida Hinze, Mrs. Max Luedke, William Luedke, Alfred Luedke and Herman Luedke, all of Sheboygan. There are also sixteen grandchildren. During the celebration Sunday the following bit of verse appropriate to the occasion, was read: “along the trail of by-gone years may all your thought take flight. Back through the land of long ago to scenes of fond delight. And there at teach familiar turn, On Recollection’ way, May memories past joys make bright, Your golden wedding day”

I am related by marriage to James William Purtell Born in Cascade area of Sheboygan on October 15, 1885 His wife was Ethel Keller and they have two children-- Frances Born 1921 Bellie Colleen Born 1927 His parents were Daniel Purtell Born 1843 and was married to my Great Aunt, Frances O'Hearn. Frances O'Hearn was one of 9 children and Daniel was her first husband. James William was know by the family members as "Willie." As a small boy, after the death of his father, his mother remarried two more times and was widowed both times. She moved to the Minneapolis, MN. area where other family members were living. In about 1920 she moved to California with several other family members. My older sister remembers meeting Willie Purtell back in Minneapolis in the very early 1930s. James was one of 3 children and I have information on all three of the children. Joan
Tina, It's not a good chance at all to find an obit from that time period. It is extremely hit and miss and most likely the Plymouth newspaper would be the one to check into. Debie

I am a decendant of Jeremiah and Johanna Horrigan, (AKA Hannah Horgan) the Paul Clifford that you mention was the brother of my great grandfather, Christopher Clifford. Don't be too surprised if you don't find any record of Christopher in Wisconsin or in family records as he left Wisconsin at an early age and moved westward ending up in Sacramento, Ca, where he married Hattie James in 1882. Christopher died in sacramento in 1900. The only mentions of Christopher are in the 1860 Census, Beechwwod, Scott Township, Sheboygan, Co, Wi. and in the obituary of his mother Johanna (Horrigan) Clifford, who also died in 1900. According to her obit. Christopher was in Montanna but; he was in fact in California. What do you know of the Clifford family? I have lots of info to share. Please bear with me here..... My 4th gr-grandparents were William & Mary (Ebert) LUBACH. They settled in the town of Scott sometime between 1856 & 1860. They have at least three kids: Carl/Charles (b. 1854 Prussia - my line), William (b. 1856 Prussia), and Louise (b. 1858 WI). William died in 1865 while serving in the civil war. It looks like Mary re-married to her neighbor, Ludwig BACKHAUS, in 1867. His 1st wife was named Henrietta. In the 1870 Census, Ludwig & Mary have a son named Edward who was born in 1862. Is Edward a Lubach or a Backhaus?? Mary's daughter Louise is listed with the family under the surname Backhaus NOT Lubach - that's why the surname of Edward is in question. Where would I write for birth records to find out whether Edward is the son of William & Mary LUBACH or Ludwig & Henrietta BACKHAUS? Thanks, Tina
Could someone please tell me where is the best place to send for an 1865 Obit? My 4th gr-grandfather, Wilhelm LUBACH, died of disease while serving in the Civil War. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. His wife and children lived in the town of Scott during this time so I'm hoping that an obituary or death notice for Wilhelm may have been printed in the local paper. Thanks, Tina
