She was born July 23, 1898 in the town of Aniwa, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Sommer) Suess. On November 26, 1918 Bertha was united in marriage to Ludwig Bauer, Sr. in Aniwa. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1958. Survivors include three sons, Edwin (Evelyn) Bauer, Racine, Ludwig (Christine) Bauer, Jr., Antigo and William (Mary Ann) Bauer, Aniwa; three daughters, Mildred Gilmore, West Allis, Marcella (LeRoy) Baneck, Byhalia, MS and Rose (Harvey) Blyton, Birnamwood; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Bertha was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers, including Frank Suess, Sr., two sisters, Rose Eckart and Theresa Gardner, a grandson, Raymond Bauer and a great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held March 8, 1994 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Aniwa. The Rev. Everard Scesney, OFM, Rev. Donald Laux and Rev. Linus Steckbauer officiated.
