He was born June 10, 1879 in Austria, the son of the late Frank Herbst. On February 16, 1903 William was united in marriage to Emma Stadler in Aniwa. She preceded him in death on February 12, 1920. He then married Theresa (Duffek) Loritz on October 3, 1922 in Aniwa. She survives. In addition to his wife, Theresa, survivors include one daughter, Mary (William) Mondl, Aniwa; three sons, Charles Herbst, Oshkosh, Clarence (Irene) Herbst, Mattoon and Leonard Herbst, Milwaukee; one step-son, Antone Loritz, Seymour; 14 grandchildren; and one sister, Josephine Brimstein, Park Falls. Funeral services were held May 16, 1962 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Aniwa. The Rev. Leo Schmitt officiated. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
