She was born December 4, 1877 in Austria. On October 25, 1897 Barbara was united in marriage to John Lex in Aniwa. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1960. Survivors include five daughters, Clara (Carl) Ebert, North Brook, IL, Bertha (Charles) Denton, Rhinelander, Theresa (David) O'Keefe, Green Bay, Barbara (John) Knudson and Rosella (Elmer) Suess, all of Rhinelander; four sons, Louis (Edna) Lex, John (Elizabeth) Lex, both town of Aniwa, William Lex, Rhinelander and Edward Lex, Milwaukee; 35 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alvina Adams, California. Funeral services were held July 10, 1961 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Aniwa. The Rev. Leo Schmitt officiated. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
