He was born Nov. 1, 1925 in Oshkosh to the late Hugo and Janet (Moore) Schroeder. Doug joined the army in 1945, but was discharged after a car accident left him disabled. He then married Helen Postl on Oct. 14, 1948 in Oshkosh where they lived for several years. Doug was a union negotiator for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners for 23 years, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen; several very special nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews. He is further survived by his brother Gerald (Fran) Schroeder, Colorado; brothers-in-law James (Emily) Postl, Sterling Heights, Mich., and Richard (Seiko) Postl, Shawano; and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Schroeder. Doug also leaves behind his good friend Buddy. Doug was also preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Merle (Jane) (Carol) and Ralph. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, at Swedberg Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dave Parrett officiating. Burial will be in Lake Drive Cemetery, with full military honors. Family and friends may call at Swedberg Funeral Home on Monday, June 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, June 30, from 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Doug's name should be made to the Shawano County Humane Society. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
