Gerald Edgar Murphy was born May 2, 1927 in the Town of Stockbridge, Calumet County, to the late Frank and Johanna (Thill) Murphy. He entered the U.S. Army and served in World War II from October 1945 to April 1946. Jerry was united in marriage on Jan. 29, 1949 to Theresa R. Shest at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Tigerton. After marriage the couple dairy farmed for some years, and then Jerry began driving milk truck, he worked at a cheese factory and at the Tigerton Furniture Factory. He had also drove gravel truck for WJ Jones of Milwaukee for around 10 years. In 1966 he started selling cars for Mayne Auto Sales in Marion and moved in 1993 to Klein Dodge in Clintonville, continuing to help out part-time until his retirement party in April 2009. Jerry was an active member of St. Anthony's, where he was involved with the Church Choir, the Community Choir, and is a former Trustee. He was also very proud to be a Knights of Columbus - 4th Degree Member and is a past Grand Knight. Jerry is a former president and member of the Marion Lions and is a member of Tigerton Lions Club. He volunteered for many years in Lions Club as a Zone Chairman for our area and he served as Town Clerk for the Town of Fairbanks. His other memberships included the American Legion Post 239 and the Historical Society, both of Tigerton. Jerry liked deer hunting, golfing, and playing the violin. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was an excellent story teller, and he especially loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include: his dear wife, Theresa; and four children, Judy Murphy of Tigerton, Gerald A. (Ilson) Murphy of Winnsboro, S.C., John (Bev) Murphy of Antigo, and Jean (fianc/ Tim Morgan) Murphy of Clintonville. There are five grandchildren, Kathy, Gerald (Kathy), Scott, Theresa and Jeralyn Murphy. There is one brother, Frank (Marion) Murphy of Tigerton; and two sisters-in-law, Lillian (Jerome) Alft and Frances Shest, both of Tigerton. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Tigerton. Fr. John Girotti will officiate and Military Honors will be provided by members of the American Legion Post #239, Tigerton. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton, and on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at the church.
