Allender Herbert "Herb" C. Allender, age 80, of Shawano passed away Tuesday Sept. 29, 2009 at Shawano Medical Center. Herb was born on June 14, 1929 in the Town of Matteson, Waupaca County, Wis. He was the son of the late Charles and Lorena Belle (Van Voorhis) Allender. As a young man, Herb worked in the construction industry for 10 years and he was later united in marriage to Irene Geise on Nov. 7, 1959 in Clintonville. The couple moved to Shawano in 1962 where they became members of the St. James Lutheran Church. Herb worked for the Shawano School District for a number of years as well as at the FWD Seagrave Corporation in Clintonville, and most recently as a security guard at Little Rapids in Shawano until his retirement in 1994. He loved to carve wood and was a current member and past president of the Geppetto Woodcarvers in Shawano. He loved his family and especially enjoyed time with his two great-granddaughters. Survivors include: his wife, Irene; three daughters, Lou Ann (Donald) Steinke, Shawano, Linda (Anthony Jr.) Berna, Pulaski, Laurie (Timothy) Schroeder, Pulaski; his son, James Allender, Shawano; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and two step-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Allender, Clintonville; one brother-in-law, Edward (Harlene) Geise, Chilton. Also many nieces and nephews. Herb was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David "Casey" Allender. Funeral services will be held Saturday Oct. 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Fred Zimmermann officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory in Clintonville is assisting his family.
