Probst Edward M. Probst, age 83, of Milwaukee, formerly of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday Oct. 20, 2009 at the Clement J. Zablocki V. A. Medical Center in Milwaukee where he had been a patient for the past week. Edward was born on Jan. 24, 1926 in Mattoon, Wis. a son of the late Edward M. and Anna (Celada) Probst-Eidenholzl. He lived and farmed with his family until the age of 16, when he moved to Michigan to work in a logging camp. On July 25, 1944, Ed was drafted into the United States Army to serve his country during World War II. He served in the Sixth Armored Division and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. He also served in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal and three battle stars. He was honorably discharged in June 1946. Upon returning from the service, he was employed at the Kimberly-Clark Paper Mill in Neenah for several years. On Sept. 10, 1949 he was united in marriage to the former Donna Mae M. Dunkin at Ft Collins, Colo. Following their marriage the couple lived in Colorado for several years and later moved to Milwaukee. They relocated to Shawano in 1988. Ed had been employed as a furniture warehouse manager for many! years. He is a member of the Shawano Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he served as deacon and treasurer. Ed is a life member of the Clintonville VFW Post 664. He enjoyed flower gardening, and in his younger years he liked to hunt and fish. Survivors include his wife, Donna Mae of Milwaukee; four children, Linda Evans of West Allis, Daniel (Karen) Probst of Wauwatosa, Wis., James (Sharon) Probst of Milwaukee, Louanne (Bill) Haase of Milwaukee; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-sisters, Ida Buss of Mattoon and Mary Whitehead of Milwaukee; two sisters in-law, Doris Ley of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Margie Probst of Shawano; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Mark Probst and Monica Haase, as well as four brothers and five sisters. Funeral services for Edward Probst will be held on Monday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Pastor Rick Binford will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Clintonville VFW Post 664. Relatives and friends may call at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service on Monday from 9 a.m until the hour of service.
