Born on May 28, 1940 in the Town of Herman, she was the youngest of nine children born to the late Joseph and Louise (Lagers) Traeger. She attended Gresham High School. After graduation she worked at the True Manufacturing Company which was later known as Gresham Needle Craft. JoAnn also worked at Eagle Knit in Shawano. On Oct. 16, 1976 she was united in marriage to Wayne Splitgerber at the St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham. After marriage the couple lived in the Town of Waukechon and raised three children. After her children were all in school, JoAnn began working at the Olga Brener Elementary School as a playground aide. She worked there for 23 years, retiring in 2007. JoAnn was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. JoAnn is survived by: her husband for nearly 33 years, Wayne; three children, Jodi Pankow of Stevens Point, Jeff Splitgerber of Bonduel, Jason (fianc/e, Robin Brandt) Splitgerber of Shawano; and a granddaughter, Lily Grace Splitgerber of Shawano. JoAnn is further survived by two brothers, Norbert (Delores) Traeger of Green Bay, Robert (Bernadine) Traeger of Gresham; two sisters, Sister Margie Traeger FSC of Manitowoc, Doris (James) Hoffman of DePere; two brothers-in-law, Terry Longrie, Henry Sticha; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. JoAnn was preceded in death by: her parents; four sisters, Jane Traeger, Mary Waegli, Beverly Longrie, Dorthy Sticha; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Irma Splitgerber; and one brother-in-law, Alois Waegli. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with Father Bob Rank officiating. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday after 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
