She was born on Sept. 25, 1919, to the late Robert C. Steebs and Carrie (Peterson) Steebs. During the early 1940s she went to Milwaukee and worked for a defense plant where she became a welder working on Spitfire Airplanes. In 1945, she met Louis Berkowitz who became her husband; he preceded her in death in 1985. She worked at the Boston Store, in the toy department for 30 years in Milwaukee, until her retirement. In 1976, the couple moved to Green Bay. Ruth was an accomplished pianist, enjoyed traveling and reading. Survivors include her brother, Robert (Alice) Steebs, Eland, Wis.; two sisters, Dorothy Collier, Hazlett, N.J.; Mildred (Douglas) Elsner, Green Bay; one sister-in-law, Keta Steebs, Sturgeon Bay; one niece, 14 nephews, and 28 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her brother, Herman Steebs; and brother-in-law, Winslow Collier. Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Funeral service 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Julie Wrubbel-Lange officiating. Entombment in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Bay Settlement. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established with Unity Hospice.
