Sylvester J. Skalecki, 77, Pulaski, passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2008, with his family at his side. He was born in Milwaukee, on March 25, 1930, to John and Anna (Zywicki) Skalecki and moved to Pulaski, with his family when he was a young boy. Sy was a 1948 graduate of Pulaski High School. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army. On Sept. 11, 1954, he married the former Catherine Gracyalny. Sy worked for Fort Howard Paper Mill and Fairmont Foods, and then farmed for many years in the town of Angelica until retiring in 2002. He was a member of Assumption B.V.M. Parish in Pulaski, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, playing cards, gardening, and watching westerns (especially those starring John Wayne). Sy was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Catherine (Katy); six children, Patricia (Lee) Weber, Green Bay; Donald (Rita) Skalecki and Peter (Judy) Skalecki, all of Pulaski; JoAnn (Robert) Nooyen, Seymour; Mary Lee Skalecki, Green Bay; and Michael Skalecki, Rothschild; 15 grandchildren, Timothy, Kelly, and Jesse Weber, Duane (Christina), Theresa, and Paul Skalecki, Laura, John, Melissa, and Jake Skalecki, Gary, Mark, Jeffrey, David, and Steven Nooyen; two brothers and one sister, Dennis (Shirley) Skalecki, Elizabeth Skalecki, and Robert Skalecki, all of Pulaski; his mother-in-law, Cecelia Gracyalny, Green Bay; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Janice) Gracyalny, Pulaski; John (Lois) Gracyalny, Oneida; Joyce Gracyalny, Little Suamico; Leona (Vernon) Benning, Pulaski; Leonard (Christa) Gracyalny, Green Bay; George (Carol) Gracyalny, Milwaukee; Richard (Patricia) Gracyalny, Green Bay; Nancy Williamson, Green Bay; Judy (Thomas) Wagner, Florida; and Elsie (F. James)! Fournier, Green Bay; his godchildren, David Gracyalny, Cynthia Benning, Denise Skalecki, and Dina Gracyalny; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jacob Gracyalny and a brother-in-law, Thomas Gracyalny. Friends may call at Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Closing prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Visitation continues after 9 a.m. Saturday at Assumption B.V.M. Church, Pulaski. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski, O.F.M., presiding. Entombment will take place in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay. Sy's family would like to thank Fr. Patrick and Fr. Brendan for their prayers and concern and all who visited him during his illness. They would also like to thank the staff at Golden Living Center - Village Gardens for the care and compassion they extended to Sy and his family.
