C PACE, DEAN L., Captain, Dallas Fire Department (Retired) 80, of Garland, Texas died peacefully Friday morning, February 17, 2006 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Born March 17, 1925 in Gresham, WI, Dean attended High School in Dennison, TX and was still in contact with many of his 1942 classmates until his death. After high school, while on leave from the U.S. Marine Corp near the close of World War II, on a blind date, he met the love of his life, the former Bettye Joe Cawthon. Married in 1946, they started a life that would span 56 years before her death in 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents L.B. and Dolly Pace. He is survived by their seven children: three sons, Charles Wayne of Quinlan, Robert of Oklahoma City and Gary of Leonard, TX. Four daughters: Gail Armstrong of Plano, Janet Kearney of Wills Point, Jackie Woods of Ennis and Tracey Wynn of Allen. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and his sister Donna Pace Bon! ner of Harlingen. "Snowshoes" Pace was a Dallas Fireman for 36 years. Early on as a hook and ladder driver, retiring as Captain, once stationed at Love Field, he was on duty and in attendance when John Fitzgerald Kennedy arrived in Dallas that infamous day in 1963. A self taught man, he owned several business in Garland including pier hole drilling, TV and Radio repair, auto heating and a/c. He was a cab driver, a limo driver and an inventor. An avid gun enthusiast, marksman, and coin collector, he was a tireless volunteer, most recently with Dallas County React, Baylor Hospital of Garland Auxiliary and Right to Life. Dean was a devout Traditionalist Catholic. The family will offer viewing and visitation on Monday, February 20, 2006 from 12:00 Noon - 9:00 P.M. at Calvary Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 in the Chapel at Calvary Hill with interment to follow.
