State St., Elgin. Born Aug. 28, 1918, in Plato Township, the son of Gottfrey and Hattie, he died Feb. 20, 1997, in Carrington Care Center, South Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Before retiring, he farmed in the Elgin area where he lived most of his life. He then moved to Shawno, Wis., and worked for a farm service in Bonduel, Wis. He moved back to Plato Center in 1993. He was a member of the Plato Center United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 799, and a member of the Elgin Marine Club. Survivors include his wife, Bernadine; daughter, Bonnie (Joseph) Marlett Jr.; sons, Robert (Robbie) Sr., Walter (Margaret), Richard (Tina), John (Ann), and Donald (June); his 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence (George) Skinner and Betty Ewert; and his brothers, Glen (Jeannette) and Edwin (Marcella). He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris Darnell. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
