Schaus, Roger W. Passed away September 1, 2008, at the age of 88 years. Loving husband of the late Marie (nee Schultz). Dearest father of Mark (Sue), Roger (Cindy) and Jane (Kevin) Niggemann. Dear grandfather of Allison, Lauren, Mallory, Samuel, Kate, Ryan and Brittany. Dear brother of Mary (the late Robert) Juley and Donna (James) Hooyman. Also survived by other relatives and friends. A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, September 6, 2008, at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4850 S. Lake Dr., Cudahy, WI, from 9 AM until the Memorial Service at 11 AM. Roger was born in Green Bay, WI in 1920 and was a WWII veteran, serving in the Coast Guard. After the war, he graduated from St. Norbert's College. He also received a M.A. from UW-Madison. He began his career in education with a teaching position in Mattoon, WI, where he met the love of his life, Marie, to whom he was married for 49 years. In 1962, Roger and Marie moved their young family to South Milwaukee, where he retired as! Superintendent of the school district in 1985. He spent his retirement years traveling with Marie, painting, and being involved with his grandchildren's activities. After Marie's death in 2001, he was an active volunteer and remained an avid Packers, Brewers and Tiger Woods fan. He was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cudahy, WI, and served in various leadership positions. He will fondly be remembered by his sheepshead club, where he would often amaze his friends with his unconventional play. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Agron Ismali, M.D., and the physicians, nurses and staff of the ICU unit at Aurora St. Luke's South Shore and Select Specialty Hospital at Aurora West Allis Memorial Medical Center, for their kind and compassionate care. We also are grateful to pastors Carl Krueger, Jon Bender and Vicar Ben Kaiser for their spiritual support and helping all of us to remain focused on the prize. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Joh! n Lutheran Church of Cudahy, WI, would be appreciated.
