FRIEND, 79 FITCHBURG - Dorothy K. (Hughes) Friend, 79, of 16 Prichard St., formerly of Eland, Wis., died Thursday in The Highlands Care Center after an illness. Her husband, Harry G. Friend, died in 1964. She leaves two sons, Julian Petrek of Smyrna, Del., and Terry Friend of Fitchburg; a daughter, Darlene Weidman of Littleton, Colo.; a brother, Merton Hughes; a sister, Beda Sheleft, both in Wisconsin; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Ridgeway, Wis., daughter of Martin and Minnie (Brandt) Hughes, and lived many years in Eland, Wis., before moving here in 1985. A funeral service and burial will be private.
